Shop Smart! Shop S-Mart!

Got a question about the Evil Dead trilogy. In the first one Ash is a college student. Then in part 2 and three even though he hasn't got back home, he's no longer that, but a clerk at S-Mart. Was this ever explained. Or has Raimi ever mentioned anything about this? Just wondering...

Maybe in some Nostradomus esc vision Raimi was depictiing todays economy, where even with a college degree the only jobs availble are those working at minimum wage

Despite the title, EVIL DEAD II is NOT a sequel to THE EVIL DEAD. It's another version of basically the same story, done with a bigger budget and greater expertise. Therefore EVIL DEAD II is part one of the story, and ARMY OF DARKNESS is part two.

According to Sam Raimi that's not true. It's supposed to be a sequal.

So, what you are saying then is that Ash is a complete moron. Not only does he go back to the same evil place where he almost died before, but he allows the same evil book to be used again to summon yet another batch of zombies? I don't think so.

The start of evil dead 2 was suppose to reshow the events of evil dead but they could not get the rights to show it from New Line, So instead the reshot there own but didn't do it the same way i don't know why... But in the evil dead 2 commentary they say they reshot a version where they had a new scotty and everything but didn't go with that.Only Sam Raimi (And The Crew) knows why they didn't, But when ash is spinning around and hits the tree and becomes evil ash for a second thats where evil dead 2 is suppose to begin :jawa:

You should listen to the commentary on the Evil Dead DVDs. They pretty much say Ash is an idiot and a coward, their opinions of him arent very flattering. I guess thats what makes him so damned cool, no matter what they throw at him, he always makes it through alive.

This is how it goes.

At the end of Evil Dead 1, the evil forces are coming straight for Ash. Right when they catch up to him, cut ot the part in Evil Dead 2 when Ash is flying through the trees (on the Tree-Cam thingy). Then, if you want to go even further, cut directly when Ash enters the portal at the end to Ash falling from the sky in Army of Darkness.

There you have it. A wonderous 266 minute Evil Dead movie.

Yes, as has been already explained in this thread, ED2 is part remake, part sequel. But, to address the question about his employment, there's no defined time elapsed b/w when he is returned to the present and when it shows him working at S-MART. But, hopefully it's a summer job or else avoid whatever he was majoring in in college!

He changed things at the beginning of each movie. Part two gives a synopsis of part one that does not match with the actual movie. Part three gives a synopsis of the first parts using new footage with Bridget Fonda instead of the original footage. They are both "loose" sequels that further the story, but can be watched by themselves without needing to see any of the previous ones.

I've always thought that the lack of continuity is part joke and part inability to license the actual footage (the former stemming from the latter)
