"The Devils Backbone" - Worth blind purchase?

I really want to see but none of my video stores have it. So I was just wondering if it's worth a blind purchase?

Imo a movie is NEVER worth a blind purchase. It depends too much on your movie taste (and your mood when you see it, I have found).

That said, I enjoyed this quite a bit.

When I bought my copy it was a blind purchase - and I haven't had any regrets. Guillermo Del Toro rules - I can't wait to see what he makes out of "Hellboy" and "Blade 3".

Good point PDJennings ... isn't going to the movies the equivalent of a blind purchase?

With that said, if I didn't think a movie was going to be good enough to see in a theater, I sure am not going to spend the $20 on a blind purchase. Big difference between a blind purchase of $10 at the movie theater and double or triple that (in the case of backbone) for a blind purchase on dvd. I'll rent any movie I didn't see in the theater before I'll blind purchase it.

Tenebrae - Guillermo Del Toro is no longer directing Blade 3 ... he dropped out to do Hellboy instead. Can't wait for that one!!

I go to the theater at least once a week. But I fail to see what that have to do with buying a DVD. Going to the movies costs 6-9$, the DVD costs 18+$. For me that makes a difference. Also I do _rent_ movies blindly, and I still don't consider that the same.

I buy movies that I consider being "rewatchable".

I rented Devils Backbone on Netflix Have not yet decided on whether I am going to buy it.

I wouldn't. Visually it is a pretty good movie, but the story is fairly boring, I would say uninteresting.

If you really like ghost stories as a genre ( 6th sense, the others) then get it. Not saying it is nearly as good as those movies it just fits in with them.

I loved The Devil's Backbone, and I recommend it to anyone who asks about it.

Fow what it's worth, I've bought literally hundreds of blind purchases, and have regretted it less than five times**.
For some people, even one mis-spent dollar is too much, for others it's no big deal. I fall into the latter category.

**Of course, I also have a bunch of freebies that I would never have paid two cents for, so...

You must remember that person such as myself for example seeks dignity in my selection. Hence even if going to the theatres costs more, it prevents a disgraceful box from abhorring my shelf.

Explain that, please.... I don't understand what that's supposed to mean.
