2002 Holiday Season Picks

2002's holiday season looks to be the biggest yet for the DVD format, with so many classics being released through the rest of the year. Which one of the above is the most important for you to own and why?

For me, it's Disney's Platinum Edition double-disc Beauty and the Beast because it's Beauty and the Beast, one of the select few movies that made me cry the first time I saw it.

Too many good choices to pick just one. But if push came to shove & I could only get one, I'd have to go with the Back To The Future trilogy. A great set of movies & awesome extras = a must-have title.

I'm looking forward to quite a few, but it without a doubt it's BTTF.

I would walk across lava to get the Spiderman dvd. I wouldn't do that for BTTF however.

I do like BTTF, but Spiderman is higher up on my list.

Way to many good ones on that list. But, if I had to choose 2 (cause I can't choose only 1...lol) I would choose Starwars: Episode II and The Lord of the Rings Extended Version dvd's.

Lord of the Rings:theatrical would be the most important, but thats not a holiday release. For the holidays it's 1.) Star Wars, and 2.)LOTR:extended

I'm going to out on a limb and say Schoolhouse Rock! 30th Anniversary Edition. Mostly because all of the other DVDs you would almost expect to be released eventually in one form or another...

But to have all of the schoolhouse rock! collection on DVD? Now THAT is a treat!!!

FYI: 'Tis coming August 27th, double-disc set, all the songs on Disc 1 plus an all-new song performed by the original cast on the electoral process, "I'm Gonna Send Your Vote to College," all remastered/restored and in DD5.1; bonus disc with commentary from the creators, games, music videos, etc.

Lot of good ones...I'm probably most looking forward to 1) Monsters Inc., 2) Back to the Future Trilogy, and 3) Beauty and the Beast (Platinum) in that order.

Attack of the Clones is due out on DVD November 26. Insert pics have found their way into the Star Wars forum; from the looks of it, another 2-disc set with extras very simmilar to Episode I.

I voted for LOTR Extended. With all these great titles to choose from it does seem a little unfair to have to choose just one. It seems like the best value is BTTF with most sites asking about $45 for the trilogy.

Some very good choices.

I voted for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

I wanted to see it again in the theatre but didn't get a chance to. I really enjoyed it and have been watching Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace on DVD again.

That would be my first purchase from all the choices. Eventually I would get Spider-Man, School House Rock and Back to the Future.

i voted for Lord of the rings, though i am antispating Ep 2 very much, the dvds just have more to offer to me, like a new movie sort of, something i sometimes wish there was for ep 2

Attack of the Clones for me, but I"m also looking forward to the Back to the Future boxset. Spider-man was a cool movie, but I'm not in a hurry to get the DVD.

This is a great list, and I will probably own about half of them. The first one on there that I would want is the "BTTF" trilogy, mainly b/c I havent watched them in five years or more, so, it'll be refreshing to see them again.

I have three other picks that werent on there, and they are Y Tu Mama Tambien, Solaris, and Cabin Boy--the latter wasnt a typo. I read in the news section that Cabin Boy is coming in September'02 and I got very happy. It's camp, what can I say.

When does Solaris come to DVD? And Cabin Boy? That has to be one of the silliest most underrated comedies of all time! It's surprsing that Chris Elliot doesn't get more work based solely on his ability to just be himself; a bumbling idiot. Solaris is cool though, would like to get my grubby hands on that one.

Personally, I would just love it if the released a best of Prefab Sprout videos...then, I would truly be happy. Does anyone know about a BackBeat release in the near future? UGH.

I voted other...because I can't pick just one.
On my must buy list:
Beauty & The Beast
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
ET
Back to the Future
and Spiderman

Grease
was also on my list, but that's more for my wife, so I'll let her figure out how to pay for that one. Because more & more movies keep showing up.

I'm picking up the majority of the notable releases from the poll, so I opted not to choose.

I'll sell my body if I have to to get the ones I want.
