Zoolander, anyone like it?

I heard such terrible things about this movie, so finally bought it for about 9.99 blind.

This movie is really funny. Anyone else like it? I got some other people to watch it and they hated it, so im wondering if anyone here like it. If you haven't seen it, I suggest you check it out, it's really funny.

I went to see it with my friend at the cinema and we both laugh throughout the film. The beginning scene when they showed all the super models living together and going to the gas station and splashing gasoline all over each other. That was hilarious. The funnies never end and it got more fun and silly.

Its a fun time. Eventually I will purchase the DVD when I am in that mood to watch it again.

I love this, it's so silly and fun. Ben Stiller is really an underrated director, and Owen Wilson was great

Prancer, I love the scene where the guys are splashing gas all over each other! And when Derek is at the funeral and says they died in a Tragic Freak Gasoline Fight Accident. Funny Stuff.

My favorite part is at the start when Hansel rides in on his scooter and goes.... "Alright, Alright, Alright..."

Hehe.

It is extremely stupid but also damn funny. It isn't a 'good' movie, but it works well enough to succeed.

That line had me in stitches. Hilariously funny.

I rented this with the girlfriend last weekend as well.
She went in with high hopes, I went in with low expectations. I think I ended up liking it more than her in the end. It was by no means, constantly hilarious, but rather had a couple great gags (gasoline fight, walk-off) and some funny performances (especially the hilarious Owen Wilson). I wouldn't buy the DVD unless it was $2, but I enjoyed it more than I didn't, so that's a good thing I guess (a solid 6/10 on the Donkey rating scale ).

PS: Christine Taylor is Hot, HOt, HOT!!!!!

I paid $15CND and thought it was worth it. Price of 3 rentals to have an ok movie, fine with me.

Saw it in theaters, didn't really get into it. Bought the DVD, and watched it, and loved it. It grew on me like crazy. What a freakin' funny movie. And though the pace was fast and the laughs condensed, I still would have liked to have the deleted scenes left in. Some (but not all) of the best stuff hit the cutting room floor.

Anyway, I payed around 20 for it. The repeat viewings have made that a better choice then a rental.

I bought this as a blind previously viewed purchase. I wanted to have a title that started with Z (trying to have my collection represent the whole alphabet) it was worth it. The gasoline fight with Wham playing in the background is priceless.
Just last night, my son was working on his "Blue Steel"

I LOVED the movie, never saw it in theatres, just bought it when it came out.

also, jerm, I was trying to do the same thing, have every letter, but damn! I can't find a good X. and I don't have a Y.

I'd buy You've Got Mail though. But don't really want to purchase it for the amount, if it was $7.99 or so, i would, I used to own X-Men and bought it BLIND, but ahhh! I hated it! So any other good X movies, I guess i'll have to wait 'til XxX comes out!

Off topic, but the director of Empire Records directed a good sci-fi/action movie called Xchange you could pick up

I don't have an N or a Q yet. For a Y, have you considered either of the Young Guns movies? The second is one of my favorite westerns.

When I saw this in theaters, I was THE ONLY PERSON in the ENTIRE THEATER who laughed.

Nobody laughed at anything, except for me.

I loved this movie. Will Ferrel definitely stoled the movie right out. I love the dancing he does for the special features menu.
Funny thing is, there are people like that in the fashion world.

I agree w/ Twisted by Design up above. I went to see ZOOLANDER by myself after the whole 9/11 tragedy. And I to was the only one laughing my ass off at the sheer stupidity in the movie! Its even better on DVD and has really become one of my cult DVD's that I am psyched to show anyone who hasn't seen it.

I avoided this movie like the plague for about three months after it's DVD release. One day I went out on a limb and rented it and thought it was hilarious. I ended up picking it up for $5 used.

Me and my friend went to see it in theaters and thought it was pretty good but kind of (please don't start on me for the comment) "queer". I decided it was a 5/10. But then I bought the DVD when it came out (for the hell of it) and I loved it. I thought it was so much better the second time around. A 7/10. The DVD is pretty good also. My other friend brrowed the DVD and watched 45 mintues of it and thought it was (his comment not mine - once again please don't start on me for this) "gay". I would recommend it though.

So...hard...to resist...personal...attacks....argh! :p

The power of the dark side is strong in this one...

Back on topic, I agree with a couple of you. It was good for a few laughs, but I wouldn't own it unless it was super cheap, as much as I like Wilson and Stiller. Seemed about 45 degrees off "the mark" so to speak. Oh yeah, and of course, it was incredibly gay.

I don't like Ben Stiller playing a funny charactor, I much prefer him as the regular guy who goes through funny situations (Something About Mary...etc) so I could never bring myself to watch this one.

Saw it in the theater and thought it was OK. bought it on DVD and have watched it 3 times since. Keeps getting funnier every time!

SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS TO QUOTE:
"for a second there i thought someone would be reading our eugoogolies"
"audie whatie?"
"who am i?"
"MerMAN! *cough*cough* MERMAN!"

and the one thing i quote on this board most often:
"Oh, snap!" (no, I'm not a rapper)

And there are SO much more. I especially like the outtakes, where there's more of Will Ferrell being the little british kid in the hypnotising sequence!
"I'm a regular kid. Do you collect comic books?"

Just find some other adjectives to use Donkey. I suggest "stupid" or "idiodic" or "dumb" since you've mentioned that that is what you imply when using descriptions such as "queer" or "gay". It's really not that hard to fight the homophobia.

Sorry, unlike Heckalaska, I couldn't resist...

I thought this film was really rather poor. There were some great moments admittedly and some nice ideas as well and Owen Wilson is always terrific fun to watch. But I found Ben Stiller (whose work I have previously very much admired) to be irritating to the point of nausea. To see cameos from the likes of Bowie and Billy Zane is always going to be a nice surprise but I felt that the material was stretched very thin over the course of the film and many of the jokes were simply too juvenile - even for me...
A nice idea but not enough to sustain a theatrical presentation and poorly executed. But there were some laugh out loud moments I must admit.

There were so many great lines, as mentioned by the other members.

One of my favorite was:

"I was bulimic"

"Wow! you can read minds?!!!"

teeheehee.......

PS Didn't want to start bashing but yes agree Marq, those more accurate and descriptive adjectives are great suggestions! Hopefully those will be used instead of the other which was homophobic.

I swear I spotted Zoolander's brother last night on Dog Eat Dog. It was their take on the "celebrity" match and they had contestants from previous reality shows.

The guy Kaya from the first "Temptation Island" was there, and I'm sure I caught him practising his Blue Steel whenever the camera panned over to him.

Although he was not as smart as Zoolander, he had the same hair.

I rented it.

a) because I like to rent these cheezy comedies
and
b) because I knew Natalie Portman was in it...
(what a waste, by the way)

Anyways...

I teach a 4th year university level course, and in the last lecture (pre-exam study sessions) a student made this joke...

"Hey, If I see a question on the exam that I don't know how to do, I'll just give it BLUE STEEL. ."

He then proceeded to give me a blue steel and the entire class erupted in laughter (including me).

I was surprised how many of them got the joke.

I liked it enough. Probably not going in my collection, but hey, never say never.

If you need an "X" in your collection, might I recommend The X-Files? Either the movie, or any of the sets? There is also X-Men, which some people here seem to like.

And with all due respect, the movie was playing up to some of the more effeminate, homoerotic characteristics assumed to be in male modeling. Certainly didn't bother me, since I'm Mister Oh-So-Secure-With-My-Sexuality, but people saying the movie is "gay" or "queer" makes more sense to me than applying it to any other "stupid" movie. Of course, I think one needs to know the invective behind it...it's hard to read a sneer on the page you know?

I know this might raise some invective, and I honestly mean no disrespect. I am not one to call someone "fag" or "queer." But there werer enough homoerotic moments in the movie, even though they were satirically done, that I could understand why someone would label it "queer" and why knee-jerk-off homophobes wouldn't like it as a result

Man, Tom, talk about resurrecting an old thread!

I saw it once on cable. To me, Zoolander is what I call "OK for a cable movie", which means it's worth catching on cable once, and may be good for a laugh or two (or a smile), but not worth buying or seeing again. I'd put Starsky & Hutch, and indeed, most of Stiller's oeurve in that category.
