Ever run into a collection that scares you?

Leaving aside pdjennings', of course Actually, I think pdj's collection is starting to threaten my masculinity. I look at his disc tally and feel insecure.

Anyway, I was just wondering how people in here react when they run across a disc collection that scares you somehow, be it just in terms of contents (I once knew a guy, not for long, who owned something like 120 discs of hentai) or in terms of the complete lack of taste the person displays.

Also, have you tried to do anything about it?

I work with a guy that has about 200 DVD's and he has like absolutely nothing I would want to watch. He has mostly musc DVD's of groups I've never heard of, and the rest, well are movies that I didn't like, or don't even want to find out if I'd like or not. He kinda feaks me out, because he has no desire to own any movie which I think is a DVD staple. I mean, I understand not catering to the mainstream, but geez.

Also where I shoot pool, know I guy that he and his GF are totally into anime. They have over 300 anime titles (I am sure there is the Mag and Hent titles in there as well) they claim and a ton of them don't even have an English track. Now that's what I call addivted to cartoons.

Now the person that really scares me is a buddy of mines neighbor. He has like every single porn DVD known to man, woman and beast, subscribes to every skin mag there is, and has foil on all the windows in his house that has a sunny exposure. Now that guy scares me.

PD Jennings collection doesn't phase me. I don't know why it bothers some people. PDJ is a man that loves DVD's and has really done something to prove it. He has disks I'd probably never watch but in return I am sure I got some stuff he probably wouldn't watch either. The way I look at it is this, no matter what you collect, theres always gonna be someone that has more than you and always someone that is gonna have less than you. Right?

What REALLY scares me are collections (no one on this board that I know of) filled with DVDs where there was a WS/PS choice and the person chose to own pan-and-scan(dal?)

Lo Pan, your collection rules dude! I even grabbed a couple of yours for my wish list. I only have region 1 capability though (thank God :p )

Seriously, you've got a stunningly good collection.

I was looking after my neighbours' house, and I came across their collection... There was about 20 titles, and they were all just action movies from 1990 and beyond. Whatever floats your boat, but I always like a little diversity. It wasn't that scary, what was scary was that I borrowed most of them and delightedly watched the whole lot.

And my friend has a collection of about 50 or so, and he has probably watched half of them. That just annoys me.

Do you think maybe he's compensating for something? [/Shrek]

Perhaps this explains why my collection's so small...nothing to worry about...

Which raises an interesting question: what if you have nothing to overcompensate or undercompensate for?

I've only got 54 DVDs in my collection, but all of them are ones that I really wanted and watch more than once. I only buy a DVD if I know that I will watch it multiple times and if I know that I will like it. I rarely buy one blindly. If I have a DVD that I haven't watched in awhile, or just didn't really like, I'll try and trade it for something better. (Kind of like I'm trying to do with The Green Mile. I got that one from Columbia House even though I told them not to send it. I've just never had the time to watch it, and from the few scenes that I've seen, it just didn't really appeal to me.)

From what I know I really fear Tomdkat's "secret" collection.

Thanks! After all the ribbing I get over owning so many, it's nice to hear a kind word. (I'm first to admit that some of my titles are "questionable" ...a small amount of them were freebies, which is a good excuse. )

Great to see that you've got Amazon Women on the Moon on there!
