how many theatrical releases do you buy each year on dvd?

I try to limit myself to 5 per year. This way I only get the films that I consider truly exceptional every year. This year, so far, the only film I'm purchasing is Signs.

I just buy what I like. I have no set number. If i liked it theatrically, and I feel it has re-watchability, then I buy.

I agree with Brian, I don't have a set number, just buy what is good.

I will not be purchasing Signs because the rewatchability factor is low. I've seen it twice and the second time was a chore.

That's interesting.. I will have to watch Signs again in the theater.. One thing I hate is watching a film in the theater and enjoying it.. Then buying the DVD and not liking it as much. This actually happened with The Royal Tenenbaums for me.

I do not have a set cap for buying DVDs. Usually I will know while watching a film at the theatre whether or not I will purchase it on DVDs but there are cases when I enjoy a film but will not purchase because of the watchability factor.

DVDs are the best! I am looking forward to watching movies in my collection again, when I purchase a widescreen television.

I believe that most, if not all, of the films I have purchased have been released theatrically.

This isn't the question. Basically, I'm asking how many movies do you buy per year from that year.

I don't buy many fresh out of their theatrical run, because as far as DVDs go, I'm a bit of a newcomer. The family got our first player December 2000, and I really didn't get serious about collecting discs until last fall. My first DVD purchase for my own private collection (outside of the discs that Dad bought, which belonged to the family, and not me spicifically) was Cats (Commemerative Edition), which was around September 2001, but I still wasn't a hardccore devotee yet and dd not intend to build a vast collection of DVDs like I do now. Then I picked up the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition 2-disc set, and it opened my eyes to the sheer wonders of the DVD format. So you see, I have not been collecting for long, and most of the titles I own consist of either movies that were released before that I upgraded from VHS or old movies that have been on VHS for a while and are just debuting on DVD.

I believe the first DVD I bought immidately after its release in theaters was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and, most recently, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Out of the movies I've seen so far this year, I want to own several of them; A Walk to Remember is on my list, for example, but I haven't picked it up yet. However,r I will buy the following films (which I have seen theatrically) on their release day.
  • E.T. 20
  • Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
  • Star Wars II
  • Lilo & Stitch
  • Beauty and the Beast: Special Edition
  • Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams

As far as buying films after theatrical runs go, I will buy it if I liked it in theaters enough to buy it, or if I want to have it, regardless of rewatchability.

I don't set a limit, probably between 15 and 25.

I don't set a number, I just get the films I like. I am in no rush to buy films that I just saw in theater. So far I own two theatrical releases from last year and three from the year before that.

The movie I am most looking forward to so far this year on DVD is Minority Report.

I buy whatever I enjoyed at the movies, and could watch over and over.
