I know you're a well-respected guy here, but have you been fooled by an armchair graphic designer?

Curious where you got the art from...

The text on the left-side is upside down (Look at all your title) ... I'm sure it's fake

Doesn't Paramount own the rights? This is fake.

I believe Paramount owns the rights to the movie. Warner Bros. has distribution rights to the television series, I believe... Still think this is fake, though. The Bits has been wrong before (though rarely).

The picture at the digital bits doesn't have the spine in the cover shot though. I don't quite understand why so many people are assuming it's a fake. Just because the spine title is upside down?

If it is real (which I'm sure it is), I seriously hope that they fix the title on the spine. That's just lazy.

I hope this is real, this is a great cover IMO. It does not mean it is fake because the writing is upside down, but knowing my luck it is.

The poor quality of the typeface used at the bottom and the fact that it is not even remotely centered points to the shred of doubt that this is real.

No way is that real, first tip-off is that the design is halfway decent. second tip-off, and the ringer, is the awfull font. No real designer is going to use Chicago (at least that's what it looks like to me). This is a talented windows pain hack. It's rendered weird anyway, like the designer didn't really know what he was doing.

I like the design though.

I PRAY that they fix the spine orientation, but it looks like this is legit...

It's online at southparkstudios.com which is an official site -- and lists the source as dvdtoons.com which is strange.

I wanted to start a new thread about Spine text, but dang it, a search found this one. Stupid search feature

The South Park spine titling really *IS* upside down.

This is my only disc in 150+ that reads from bottom to top like that, and it's, well, annoying.

Anyone have any other DVDs that "break the mold" / "were designed by Dilbert's company"?

Consider the Source

It wouldn't surprise me if the spine "error" was done on purpose. Even though Comedy Central (or Warner Bros) has the final say on the DVD (they prevented the commentary from being on the DVD's so my understanding is that to get the commentary you have to buy from Comedy Central, where they will send you supplemental CD's with the commentary...very disappointing), the marketing people aren't above screwing with the fans. Remember a few years ago when Comedy Central spent a couple of weeks heavily promoting the upcoming episode where Cartman's father would be revealed? The big date came and the episode didn't even mention the subject. Trey Parker and Matt Stone were on HBO's Dennis Miller Live show not long after, and Dennis Miller asked about it. They just thought it would be funny to do that to the fans (and I think it was funny too), in spite of all of the hate mail they got and intentionally trying to anger their most devoted fan base. Those guys are great!

For what it's worth, I'm NOT buying the Season 1 set BECAUSE of the commentary issue. If they are re-released with the tracks on the DVD's I'll definitely pick it up.

The individual volumes for Regions 2,3,4,5,6 have the Spines running the wrong way in the crap jewel cases...

Artificial Eye releases in UK also go this way, so just cos it does this I doubt it means it is fake...

Looks like George McFly is owed many apologies for providing what turned out to be the true South Park Season 1 cover art.
