Burt Reynolds

I just finished watching one of my all time favorite movies Sharky's Machine. Starring and directed by Burt Reynolds why hasn't this man ever received the respect he deserves. Granted he has mad a few bad movies but if you look at his body of work its amazing.

Smokey and the Bandit 1 & 2
Cannonball Run
The Longest Yard
Deliverence
Sharky's Machine
Gator
Hooper
Heat
Boogie Nights

and his tv series Evening Shade

The list goes on but these are some of my favorites why isn't he mentioned in the same breath as others who have accomplished a hell of a lot less and are considered great.

I loved "Evening Shade"

I was about to say, "Burt Reynolds" wasn't in Heat" until I remembered it was one of the slew of cop movies he did in the eighties.

I also remember him as one of the funniest guests Dennis Miller ever had on his HBO show.

My brother just bought me "Sharky's Machine". It was on sale for under $10 at Wal-Mart. Anyway, it wouldn't play on my regular machine but it did on my secondary (read: crappy) player. While I can't say I liked the movie as much as I remembered it, I still liked Burt (way too cool) and anything with Rachel Ward is worth a view!!

I've always been a fan of Burt's. Sure he's made some bombs but who hasn't?
A couple of years ago I was up late flipping channels and came across some movie with him and Cybill Shepard. It was a musical and boy...if you EVER want to hear some bad singing, just watch this movie. Burt should NEVER be allowed to sing.
It was like Clint Eastwood in Paint Your Wagon bad. (If you've ever seen that classic)

I didn't read any of the previous posts...but I would like to add:

Burt Reynolds kicks much ass.

That is all.

THat movie is called "At Long Last Love" and the songs are all Cole Porter standards. A big amongst the Golden Turkey Awards set. Directed by once-thought-to-be-legendary director, and Cybil Shepherd paramour, Peter Bogdanovich.

As far as Burt goes, he's made some great movie, but not in a long long while with the exception of Boogie Nights. He's a victim of many things: A bad on-set accident when a stuntman picked up a real chair, thinking it was a breakway chair, and smalling burt with it; the subsequent addiction to painkillers that followed; the bad choice after bad choice Burt made with his movie roles; the inability to reinvent himself for newer audiences; an inability, until Boogie Nights, to allow himself to perform in a non-romantic supporting role. The last one, to me, is probably the biggest obstacle. He was an old man still seeking out roles where he could be an action hero, kick ass, get the girl, a problem dogging Stallone and Schwarzenegger now. He's now trying to play his age, but with a bit of the hellion he has in him. So far, it hasn't worked all that well (The Crew, anyone?) but he's got the chops to pull off a role of an older man with dignity, he just has to be willing to accept some humility and know that his days as a leading man are behind him.

If you mean the one with Clint Eastwood, it was called City Heat.

The Heat I was refering to in my initial post was the one where he played a private detective/enforcer in Atlantic City or Las Vegas I don't remember where, who was so dangerous with edged weapons that he didn't use a gun.

I love Burt and always will no matter how many times he stretches his face. He is a 'Nole and one of FSU's biggest supporters. The dorm the Football players stay in is called Burt Reynolds Hall. He bought the team Garnet pants in '92 and we promptly went out in all Garnet (I love that look) and won 70-7. He also has segments during the Bobby Bowden show each week during the season. He comes to a few games every year and his call during the pregame show before the fu gadrs game is now a tradition.
If you have the movie check out The Cannonball Run when he is flying the plane you'll notice that although it is orange(blechh) his hat is an FSU hat. He played RB there in the 60's and is a huge friend of the program.

Isn't Burt also famous for his legendary talkshow performances in the 70's (Carson etc.)?
And wouldn't it be heaven if someone would put out a compilation DVD?
