Band of Brothers worth a blind purchase?

Never saw BoB, but I love WWII movies, history, etc. Is BoB worth a blind purchase?

Thanks.

I watched it religously on HBO and I cant wait for it to come out on DVD, I dont know if its fair to compare but I think it was better than SPR, and I cant wait to hear the DTS

If you're even thinking of buying it blind you won't be dissapointed.

I'm buying it blind too. Haven't seen a single episode, but I'm dying to.

When's the release date? I know it's not too long now.

I'm sorry but no matter how good a series it may be, I can never recommend anything that big as a blind purchase. Try to get a hold of a couple episodes somewhere to be sure you like it.

I am definitely buying it blind. This will probably have to come as a Christmas gift due to its cost and all the other DVDs I will get in November. I am looking very forward to it.

I'm basing my decision to buy this blind on both the excellent word of mouth, and the fact that From the Earth to the Moon was so amazing. It's a DVD set I'm surprised a lot of people don't refer to...get it!

This was a GREAT mini-series...I just finished reading the book, and I was impressed at how faithful the series was to Ambrose's book. You can't go wrong with this set.

They're airing this in Canada on regular TV (with commercials) next month. It won't be edited or anything but I've been told that commercials will ruin the impact of the series. I really want to watch this series so it will be hard to resist watching it on TV and waiting for it to arrive in November. What to do....what to do....

Did anyone notice that the film's name on the tin's spine is in the wrong direction? I hope they correct this. (This would look really cool next to my "Akira" tin set, if they fix this error )

I watched it and liked much better than Saving Private Ryan. (It felt like a similar approach, but a better story.)

This was the best thing broadcast in the history of TV. I can't wait to pick this up.

If you have the extra money, buy it blind - ask yourself this - Did you like Saving Private Ryan? Yes, but you wished it was 10 hours long and with even cooler war scenes? BOB is right for you!

Well shit, I was wondering the same thing about this set. But like a.bunker said, I cant imagine spending so much on something blind. BUT me and my dad have though about it since were huge war fans. My dad loves SPR and that leads me to some questions. Was the series filmed with that stupid effect that makes the picture look smudged and crap, to give it that old time effect? How are the battle scenes? How long is each episode? Does each episode contain something significant (battle), or do some have slow parts? Also, anyone know the best price this will be sold at?

Hey Ravenous...it's worth it, man! Also the set is about the same as 2 months of premium cable...probably will street in the $100 region. Sam's will probably have it way on the cheap.

I think I'm going to pick it up blind. I missed the first episode on CTV, and I didn't want to watch the episodes out of order, so I decided not to watch any of them. I liked Saving Private Ryan, but thought it was a bit shallow, and I imagine that with a mini-series, they could have more fully-formed, identifiable characters...

Its also because the series is on Global and not CTV I've been trying to watch the series on tv but haven't been able too since i have work So it will be a blind buy for me. The first episode was great though

I already bought it blind! Heh.

If you're thinking about pre-ordering it, I bought mine on Amazon.ca with the first-timer coupon for around $55 US. It pays to visit the Bargain Area

It is absolutely worth the buy!
I have viewed the series several times (I produced all of the TV promotional spots for Canada this year) and it withstands multiple viewings quite nicely.
A top notch production (the most expensive in television history) that is made poignant by the fact that it is all true.
If you enjoyed Saving Private Ryan - you will love this!

By the way - the author of the book Steven Ambrose passed away only a week or so ago from cancer. A sad loss.
