Cube
I just saw Cube on IFC and was pretty blown away. Is the DVD release of this any good? With indy films it is hit or miss on the quality of the presentation. The picture on IFC was clean, so hopefully the DVD looks that good.
Also, has anyone seen the sequel? I have heard bad things, but haven't seen it.

Be careful that you buy the awesome widescreen Trimark version of CUBE instead of the awful Lion's Gate Pan-and-Scan Messtropiece. Check the aspect ratio before you purchase.
Reviews of Hypercube are good. It may not make it to theatres in most peoples towns. |

Spoilers
Josh,
I just watched Cube the other night. Pretty decent movie. Cube 2 or Cube ² or whatever it's called hasn't been released in the United States yet. Cube I think had multiple meanings. Granted, I feel the movie got the point across nicely. The cube was a it a test, or a trap? Notice all the members were named after prisons? Quentin, Leaven, Worth, etc. Well, I am sure the other names were prisons also. So was the Cube the prison, or where each persons attitude towards life their own prison? I felt this movie had a touch of th1r3teen Ghosts, a touch of Forrest Gump, and a touch of Resident Evil to it. I look forward to the sequel. The DVD has 3 hidden trailers on the main menu, and some deleted scenes, plus the movies trailer. The transfer is decent. Worth a rental at least. I bought it blind, glad I did. -Flash

Thats the bad thing about movies like that is that a sequel has to have more action and probably explain more than the first else it would be a remake on the first one and that i think will make it lose its charm. So i might rent it for $1 when its out in the local rental place (maybe)! my 2 cent

i was impressed with the commentary on the dvd. i believe i saw the trimark version. it had some storyboard comparisons, etc that made this film worth getting. i did a review on it.
the sound was disappointing, and of course, widescreen was available on the one i got. i wrote a review on it, if that helps. http://www.dvdfuture.com/review.php?id=247 |

it sounds like a purchase would be worth it if I get the right version.
spoilers ahead***** I noticed the names as well. I started wondering about it all. Leaven and Worth are two halves of one prison which is interesting considering their character development and relationship by the end of the movie Holloway is a womens prison in London. It's history includes being the location where the first women of the suffrage movement were sent. Very interesting in relation to her character. Kazan is the capital of Tartarstan. There is a prison there, but more interesting is the historical aspect in relation to the character: "When volunteer fighters went from Kazan to help liberate Moscow from Polish troops in 1612, they carried with them an icon called Our Lady of Kazan. The subsequent victory in Moscow was widely attributed to the mystical powers of this icon, and two grand churches were built -- one in Moscow, and one on St. Petersburg's Nevsky Prospect -- in honor of the icon. " Interesting as Kazan was the key to finding the way out as well as the only one to escape. Some more fun facts about Kazan: "Kazan has also long been known as a center of intellectual and revolutionary activity in Russia. Famous students at the city's renowned University of Kazan have included Lev Tolstoy, Lenin, and Karakozov..." Rennes is a prison in france - I'll have to see the movie again to see if I can find any significance. Alderson is a prison in West Virginia - again, I'll have to see the movie again.
