Wow, that looks like power. I was a bit skeptical when I heard the rumors of a Matrix anime but I'm sold, no question. The only thing I don't like about it is the title: The Animatrix? Come on now...

Very sweet!!!!!!!!!!!! Adding this one to my wish list. When you hear a definitive date on a release, be sure to let us know.

Yeah i changed my topic title as no one seemed to even want to look at the post. So changed it from Animatrix DVD 2003 to the title that is on right now. I'm just curious as to how the company behind Final Fantasy made their Matrix contribution? The studio was closed down after FF movie failed in the movie theaters

It could've been done after they did Final Fantasy and before its theatrical release. Since there are 9 shorts to it, I'd imagine none of them being more than 8-to-10 minutes long.

And they already created most of the new programs and software for Final Fantasy to create the movement and facial expressions for the characters, so it wasn't like they had to create new stuff for the Animatrix short. Just create new characters, new backgrounds, and animate.

It's too bad that Square Pictures was shut down. For all the complaining about how FF:TSW looked unrealistic, I thought it looked pretty damn good for a CG flick. I guess people were just expecting it too be as good as live action and got bitter when they found out that we're just not there yet (if they wanted live action, go watch a live action movie then. Jeez.) I personally thought that the movie was visually phenomenal, even if the story was crap. So when I say I'm disappointed that the studio was shut down, it's because they had huge potential to produce other works -- it was their first time around, they should have gotten a chance. Maybe with their Animatrix segment they will?

Actually I just realized a funny thing. A long time ago, Squaresoft was on the verge of bankruptcy. They made an RPG which, if it did not sell, was to be their last title -- so they called it Final Fantasy. It was a make or break situation which, fortunately, made the company. And basically the same thing happened with The Spirits Within, although this time things didn't go so well. So maybe the movie has nothing at all to do with the games, but at least it was named appropriately.

I'm upset too that they closed down. They sure did have a lot of potential in their animation. New Line Cinemas ran into the same problem in Bankruptcy last year, sure enough they place all their eggs in one movie franchise as a make or break. Taht movie happened to be LOTR and look how well it turned up and 2 more to come. Lets hope that some other company will try to buy Square Pictures to do a project later down the road, because they weren't given anything to work with in FF. The story just wasn't there all the time and i think the company relied on its name and great animation seen in ads/trailers to draw in the audience. Oh well they still got me to see it and buy the dvd.

I'm excited but also wondering if any of these shorts were supervised by the Wachowski brothers? On one hand we get cool new glimpses of the Matrix world, but on the other hand, some of these short films might go against the films, which hasn't even released its sequel yet.

I mean, I love samurais and animation and everything, but what does that have to do with the Matrix world we see in the theaters? But then , what do I know, there's still a lot we haven't seen yet.

I don't know how much I can say, but the company I work at is working on all of these Animatrix projects. I've seen all but one of them, and I have to say each one of the totally rocks!. The Square Pictures one is the coolest one, but the others have their amazing moments too. The first two that will be released, the two parter, are incredible. Some really amazing moments that will change your view of the world of the Matrix, and the relationship between the Machines and Man.

I think the Wachowski's wrote the stories for 4 or 5 of them, and the rest they at least supervised and gave input on. All I can say is that these are a great supplement to the world of the Matrix.

Wellt he dvd has a release date

Well in this article i found (from another site at IGN) it seems like we can all expect to see the dvd this coming June.

The Los Angeles Times

"It kicks off next weekend when the first TV spot for "Reloaded" is slated to air during the Super Bowl. There are also nine animated shorts titled "The Animatrix"; a few will be available online and all will hit DVD in June. One will be coupled with the March release of Lawrence Kasdan's film "Dreamcatcher." "Enter the Matrix"

Oh man May, June and November can't come soon enough

Several were written by the Wachowskis and all of them, from script to animation, were approved by the Wachowskis. So I think it's safe to say they're not going to contradict anything.

Excitingly, two of the shorts will tell about how the machines finally took over.
