John Cassavetes on DVD

Hey has anyone watched any of the Cassavetes disks from Pioneer? If so, what was the aspect ratio / picture quality of the transfer? Please let me know.

I saw Faces, Shadows, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie and Opening Night. All have decent image quality. I think these are the same transfers as the Pioneer LDs. I can't remember the exact ARs but I think they were either open mate or 1.66.

...FYI: ...in the French "Hommage à John Cassavetes" series the only 'widescreen' (anamorphic 1.66:1) release is Opening Night...

. . . . . .

Only seen Chinese Bookie and Opening Night on dvd. Chinese Bookie is open matte(full frame). Looks pretty good though. Opening Night looked fine too. Both good films.

I have Woman Under the influence too. That's full frame and looks pretty good. I think it's a flipper though.
Minnie and Moskowitz is his best. I know it's not Pioneer, it's Anchor bay. It's widescreen with commentary by Seymour Cassel and Gena Rowlands.

Hey, as long as we're resurrecting old threads...

I know this topic is more toward the actual discs and their quality, but I thought it was close enough that a new Cassavetes thread wasn't warranted. Anyway, I just watched The Killing Of a Chinese Bookie on Friday, and while it was interesting, I had a hard time getting into it because of the radically different style, which I just wasn't prepared for. As I suggested in the "What Movie Did You Just See?" thread in T&OT, this may not have been the best "intro to Cassavetes" film. I put A Woman Under the Influence on my Netflix queue, but I was wondering if anyone out there had any recommendations of their own, or even something non-Cassavetes, but of a similar style.

Thanks!
