All depends on how much you like the Cruise...its the ultimate vanity project. Too derivative of better flicks, Notorious for instance, for it sit well with me.

It's not the best movie but I thought it was a fun movie. I own BOTH Mission Impossible DVDs and liek them both!

It's at least worth renting...

Peace....

From a DVD standpoint, it's one of the better loaded DVDs from Paramount. Tons of featurettes, John Woo commentary track, music video, even the Ben Stiller spoof of M:I-2.

One of the more impressive Tom Cruise movies from a physical standpoint, as he does most of the stunts in this film. The mountain climbing scenes still blow me away, rivaling the scenes in Stallone's Cliffhanger.

The first M:I film had a better story and tension, but the scenes in M:I-2 are more action-packed.

I'm a John Woo fan, so choosing to get it was easy for me.

It is much more an action movie than the first one which makes sense considering John Woo directed it. I don't know if it's a better movie than the first one in terms of craftsmanship but IMO it is a more enjoyable movie. I own both and watch the second one more.

This is one gets watched pretty regularly at my house because it'san easy one to pop in and drift in and out of. The extras are pretty sweet. The stunts are broken down. It's got a lot of stuff. The MTV awards thing with Ben Stiller is hilarious.

My biggest complaint is the shitty, shitty dialogue. There's a few good ones, but the stuff between Tom and Thandie really sucks. I wish I could blame it on the acting but how can you say, "We just rolled up a snowball and tossed it into hell, now we'll see what kind of chance it's got," and not make the line sound completely corny. And it's Robert Towne no less?!? I think he needs to go back and read Chinatown. Eck.

But a quality disc nonetheless.

I thought it was great fun. Cool stunts, fast pace, some good lines (well, I thought so!) and sexy Thandie Newton (plus some none-too-subtle references to Hitchcock's Notorious) on a pretty loaded disc (although no trailer is pretty odd). I'd buy it.

Since I haven't heard too many against it, I will add that I hated the movie. I found it to be an utter bore and stupid, but I think the first film is pretty entertaining. Nothing against anyone else's opinion, but for me at least, it didn't work.

As the local Tom Cruise buff I am going to go ahead and recommend the movie. It is a lot of fun and easily rewatchable. The film has some great action sequences and a good story, that is easy to follow along compared to the first film. Hell, I even took my username off the back of the case. Anyway, it is one of Paramounts rare loaded discs with all very cool and informative extras (and I have always wondered the same about the lack of trailers). If you like fun then you'll love this movie.

Shit! I just realized I sounded like a salesman, especially with that last line.

Ah, Hitoshi.

I personally think this movie is garbage and I can't believe it bears the name "John Woo". It sort of kind of looks like his work, but only in the most mechanical way -- it's got all the techinical Woo elements, but none of the story, character or emotion. Yes, it is best described as "the ultimate vanity project".

"Wow Tom Cruise, you're so sexy, you're so brave to do your own stunts. I adore you!" Is that what you want to hear? Well there I said it. Maybe if we prop up his ego enough his head will fill up with hot air and explode.

Mission Impossible was way better in my opinion. Sure I had to watch it a couple of times to understand what was going on, but...

My only complaint about the DVD is the lack of the trailers, which were awesome. Otherwise, it's well worth the money.

I also liked the first one, but didn't care for the second. It does have a few good moments, but I expected more from John Woo. I'd rent it first or pick it up used.
