Spider-Man DVD viewed...
Yes, I had the pleasure of viewing a review copy of Spidey this past week.
Unfortunately, the copy was not mine to keep, but I go to watch the film and most of the extras. (And tape some of it so I can re-watch it later. My copy of the film itself will probably be worn out by the time the DVD actually comes out.) The picture quality was as good as you'd expect, but I've no idea if it had EE. The TV we viewed it on wasn't huge, so... I heard about ten minutes of the commentary with Raimi, Dunst and co. All I can say is, I hope the rest of the commentary is a little more interesting. There is a tonne of TV spots, but aggravatingly only one trailer. (The one that begins with Tobey walking toward camera at the funeral.) Where's that kick-ass trailer that made me cry because it was so good? (The one that starts, "Who am I? You sure you wanna know?") Two music videos there too. On the second disc there was quite a lot of still frame stuff on Spidey's comic adventures, and a twenty minute doco on same. There was the E! "Spider-mania" special (40 minutes) and the other promo fluff thing (I forget what channel had it) which went for about 22 minutes. The screen-tests were interesting, especially Tobey's, which was more a test reel to show that Tobey could be athletic. (He's got no shirt on, he's all greased up, and he kicks the crap outta some guys.) The outtakes were funny, but nothing hilarious on show. That's all that springs to mind right now...there was obviously more extras than that, but feel free to ask if'n you are curious about anything. ![]()

Even though I'm buying the movie anyway (already got the gift-set pre-ordered), I have one question about the surround sound.
POTENTIAL SPOILER!!!!!! In the scene where Norman Osborne is being "haunted" by the Green Goblin, how good are the localization effects? It's the scene where Norman is alone in a room, and the voice of the Green Goblin keeps speaking to him from different parts of the room. In the theaters, the surround effects were magnificent. I remember telling my friends that the one scene would soon become a demo scene once it got on DVD. I'm just hoping that the surround sound turned out as good as it was in the theaters. ![]()

Heh...as well as having an "average-sized" TV, he ain't got no surround system.
I realise what a pathetic excuse for a reviewer that makes me, (The picture was, uh..."Good" and the sound was, um..."cool") but I couldn't not post about getting a sneak peak at the goodies. ![]() For what it's worth, the sound did shake the hell out of his house...and that's with only three speakers. I also meant to mention that the DVD menu listed a trivia track like feature which was not actually present on the review copy. It also had a branching feature for further BTS stuff which did work, thankfully. (There were about five or six of these asides, if I remember correctly.) In a way, I'm kinda glad that there will be still more features for me to go through when the real disc comes out. ![]()

That's okay. As I said, I'm buying the DVD anyway.
I can just assume that they wouldn't butcher that one part of the movie that literally made people in the movie theater look behind them and to the corners of the theater looking for the source of the sound.

If how Spider-man did in the theaters is any indication of how well it will do on DVD, then this DVD will sell very well.

I might get this one now or hold for the Superbit; after all Lo is already saying that the extras are fluffy and i prefer only the movie with DTS and DD with a high quality image rather than a quality image and audio DVD with fluffy extras.

Lo-Pan no offense, but maybe you should have watched the whole thing instead of 10 minutes of it.
I will probably pick this one up, i dont mind fluff unless its good fluff.

I only had limited time to explore the discs, so I chose to skip the longest extra feature, namely the commentary. I was more jazzed to see the other stuff, to be honest.
So for all I know, the commentary is great...we'll find out soon enough, eh? And only some of the extras are fluff. ![]()

It feels like all I'm doing is complaining about the DVD, but it's really not my intention to...I love the film, and the quality of the film presentation is outstanding. But it's still hard to shake the feeling of the discs being padded. ...anyway, what's with that idiot spammer givin' me crap about "spoiling the extra features"?? What a jackass. ![]()

Also one more question: Did you notice a weird look to the daylight scenes?
Examples: The scene outside the school, the scene where Spidey drops by at a church M.J. i noticed quite this weird fake look to it, much like Harry Potter only that it happens during day light scenes or scenes with a lot of background light.

Is the original teaser trailer on there with the helicopter caught in the web in between the World Trade Centers?
I heard rumors a few months ago that it would be on there but I've heard nothing since. |
