Monsters, Inc. Degrade?

Just wondering how long until Disney degrades Monsters, Inc. on DVD as a single-disc barebones reissue. It's happened with all three previous Pixars, and I expect it to happen with this one. While I don't like Disney's practice on this issue, I'm sure it'll happen. I can see the extras list now.

A MONSTEROUS New Single-Disc DVD Loaded With Extra Features!
  • Anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) and Full Screen (1.33:1) Formats
  • A Full Set of Hystarical Outtakes As Seen in Theaters!
  • Academy Award-Winning Pixar Short "For the Birds"
  • All-New Animated Short "Mike's New Car," Featuring John Goodman and Billy Crystal!
  • A Special Sneak Preview of Disney/Pixar's Upcoming Animated Feature "Finding Nemo"
  • New Low Price - Own It Today For Just $19.99 SRP!

Yeah, it'll be coming soon. The 2-discer might even be taken out of print like the "A Bug's Life" one was. I can see them re-releasing Monsters as barebones and in a 4-pack with Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story 2 as well, just in time for the summer 2003 release of "Finding Nemo." Maybe even a 5-pack with all four Pixars plus "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command."

Of course, I'll already have the Monsters, Inc. CE, which I'm picking up next Tuesday for the wicked awesome Best Buy price of just $15.99, but really, how cheap can Disney get? It'll be coming soon, probably. Just another cheap attempt at milking a monster success for all it's worth (pardon the pun.) And when it is out, some "poor unfortunate soul" will see the single-discer and pick it up, not knowing that for just a few bucks more they could've gotten a super DVD megaset...

I'm delightfully suprised Disney didn't opt for the single-discer to come out at the same time with a $29.99 SRP and the 2-discer at $39.99, as is their usual custom...

Even though i dont have the toystorys, i have the 2-disc bug's life. So it'll be nice to have another 2-disc Pixar movie.

I actually don't think Monsters Inc will be reduced to a 1-disc, at least not in the near future. A Bug's Life was initially released as 1-disc, which was later re-packaged as a Gold Collection, several months after the CE came out.

Similarly, Toy Story + Toy Story 2 only sold together, but were both offered in Collector's Editions (3-disc Ultimate Toy Box) and barebones versions (2-Pack) concurrently.

With this Monsters Inc DVD, Disney made a conscious decision to really pack powerful sales numbers, essentially doing what Dreamworks did last year with Shrek - simply 1 release, a 2-disc set with both versions of the film and extras that both kids and adults can enjoy.

The difference is, this is Disney and Pixar, the movie was better than Shrek, and I expect the DVD will be better than Shrek. I suppose that Disney might re-issue it as just one disc, but that's not something they've done in the past. That's Fox and Columbia/TriStar's style.

Erm, Toy Story 1 + 2 & Bug's Life all started out with single disc editions.

Then later, we got the still-difficult-to-find :rar: Ultimate Toy Box and Bug's Life Collector's Ed.

I agree. I don't think Disney has any plans to release Monsters Inc. in a single disc version. The low price the DVD is being introduced at asserts the notion that Disney wants this title to be a huge seller.

Their previous single disc and collector editions always had a huge price gap. I'm glad to see Disney taking this approach by releasing one feature-packed DVD at one great affordable price! It only makes sense to release one version that both families and collectors will gobble up, instead of marketing disparate versions at two different camps.

I don't see why this is worth worrying about. You'll have the 2 disc set available for plenty of time. Why get worked up about the possibility of them discontinuing it eventually?

actually, a bug's life was released as a single disc. then the collector's edition, and later on as the gold collection disc. all were several months apart... toy story 1 and 2 were available as a double pack, and in the box... a couple months later the single discs were available, and the double pack was dumped [crap artwork from what i saw anyways].

Although "Toy Story" is a very good movie, I don't think I could ever watch it again. I remember watching it many times when I had shattered my tibia my junior year of high school. I'll never forget the trip to the E.R., the smell of the X-Ray area, lying at home on the couch f-ed up beyond belief with pain killers, and realizing that I wouldn't be able to walk normally for at least two months. Too many bad memories. Although not as severe, I still get those bad memories coming back to me if I see any computer animated film like Toy Story, Monsters Inc., etc. Maybe I should see a shrink about that? :p
