24: Season One thoughts...

What does everyone think of 24: Season One? I just got finished with the 2nd Disc (After Palmer starts his first speech), and already I am totally entangled and in awe of this series. If I had the time, I would be watching disc's 1 - 6 non-stop...but I can't! This is a great show. I have never been so involved in a show, or even a movie, as I have been in 24 so far. And to think I have 4 discs left to go. WOW. I don't think I'm going to watch Season 2 when it comes out this month. I won't be able to stand waiting a week between each episode..Watching the episodes back-to-back is suspensefull enough for me :p!
Anyways, please post your reaction to this show. Oh, if you haven't seen or bought this DVD yet - do it. I bought it blindly because this board said it was incredible - oh boy were you guys right! 24 is a very complex & suspenseful show.!

Cool show. I was totally into it, but after reading the spoilers on the net, I wasn't as much into it; still liked it but would've liked it even more if I wasn't made aware of what was going to happen.

Season one left a lot of things unexplained like...
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Who is Nina working for, and what is her boss's connection to Gaines or the Drazens?

I only made it to the half way point in the season when it was on air. After that school commitments made it next to impossible to keep up to date with everything. I will hopefully be getting the set next week for my b-day, so I am psyched to finally see the rest of the season.

Extremely good show that stands right there with my Sopranos and X-Files sets. One plotline in the later half was a big piece of shit however...

SPOILER

When his wife gets amnesia...

I had some major issues with the ending, though, specifically...

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
When the mrs. dies

It just seemed... too quick. The ending, i mean. It seemed like a rush job, but then it wasn't.

I suppose that's what Season 2 is for :p

But other than that, awesome series. I'm glad i followed it, and I'll definitely be watching 24 season 2.

I got the boxset over the weekend and am loving it.

Only problem, I got a defective disc. At the end of episode 2 (1-2 am) it got all pixellated. I cleaned the disc (noticed a scratch to the disc) and got it to play the rest of the episode (after having to scan for 5 minutes to where it left off, wish there were chapter stops).

But, now it won't play episode 3 at all.

Off to return it today. Can't wait to see the rest.

Everything up until noon is riveting, everything past that is good, but extremely contrived, such as the aforementioned amnesia stint, and SPOILER:

Kim getting kidnapped AGAIN?!?

Of course, Fox only ordered 13 episodes of the show initially, so the writers were forced to prematurely climax the kidnapped family plotline in case the show wasn't picked up for a full season. After the show was renewed, they basically had to kill time until midnight (the last ep rocked the house, though). Still, with a full 24-episode commitment for the second season, the show's storytelling should be much smoother.

Oh, and Jack Bauer is the coolest man on TV!

No spoilers here.

I watched the whole series when it was airing on TV, and it was definitely my favorite new show of last year (although the other spy show, Alias, ran a close second, as it almost had as many weekly cliffhangers that 24 did).

I haven't yet bought the DVD set, but it is on my wish list. I'm just wondering how watching Season One again will play out after knowing what happens and how it ends. For me, the intrigue and suspense of 24 is not knowing what will happen, who the bad guys are, or how it will be resolved.

For a TV show, I found 24 to be quite unpredictable, and I've been pretty good at figuring out most plots of movies before they happen.

For those through only the first couple of discs, the 2nd half gets better (or at least I thought so).

Just for everyone's info, Season Two is scheduled to start on October 29, basically after baseball's World Series ends.

Fantastic show that was only marred by the amnesia plot & Kim getting kidnapped a second time in one day. Other than those two things, everything else was great. Like someone else said, the last episode was absolutely brilliant!

I'll agree that the amnesia plotline was a bit cliché, but why the disappointment with Kim's second kidnapping? Why is it so hard to believe?

Nina knew exactly where Kim was once she was at the police station. The Drazens needed Kim as a barganing chip. It's only logical that they would try to capture her again.

I don't have a problem with the second kidnapping, just the amnesia and the fact that some scenes, to me, don't make sense after knowing who the CTU traitor is...

i just cant say enough how much i like this show. i dont think a show has ever had me checking my watch 3 times an episode to make sure that there is still more show coming and had me screaming at the screen at the end of every episode.

i was ok with the second kidnapping... these guys REALLY wanted her dead and the Drazens were starting to get desperate towards the end, and the amnesia was understandable too, Mrs Bauer had been through hell that day and just saw her daughter go up in a fireball, i'd want to block all that out too!

just my opinion
will season 2 still be the one day 24 hour format or are they going with an each-show-is-one-day format? i have heard conflicting reports.

Same format as far as I know, where each show represent 1 hour in real-time.

Already seen some teasers on TV as I'm watching the baseball playoffs, and the 1st episode is at least finished or parts of it are done. Looks pretty good, Kiefer looks like he'll be sporting a scruffy mustache and beard.

I heard they are sticking with the same format. Also, season 2 begins at 8am, and the day takes place about a year after season 1.

Good, that means Jack will at least get a full night's rest before all hell breaks loose.

I'm only at 5 p.m. right now, but I'm loving this show... however, a friend of mine with similar taste in movies, TV shows, books, and music told me that the show got stale after a few plot twists too many, so I'm a bit worried that he'll be right... So far, though, so good.

I think there's only so much you can do with the 24 format and I actually wouldn't have minded the new season being still one storyline, but spread out over time...

Well, for those who were holding off buying 24, maybe this is a little incentive, for those on the west coast or southwest states.

Fry's Electronics is selling the 24 box set for $35, the cheapest I've seen online or brick-and-mortar. Needless to say, I picked up my copy this weekend. The sale lasts through Tuesday.

Hope this doesn't mean it sold like shit. I'd like to see a season 2 set next year cause I can't watch it on TV.

Well my boyfriend and I finally finished the first season...wow...what a ride. I admit the whole amnesia thing really bugged me, but other than that, it was great! I was pretty saddened by the ending and confused a little bit with parts of the alternate ending, but overall, I would have been disappointed had the season ended without Jack suffering some sort of personal loss. It would have been insane for him to have emerged from the day unscathed while everyone around him either lost someone or had some sort of negative ramification. The ploy worked....here's one viewer who'll definately be tuning in come Oct 29th...

The first episode is fully sponsored by Ford, so no ads. As a frield of mine says, we'll finally get to see what happens during the commercials
