damn disney / beauty and the beast packaging

I got my beauty and the beast today and first of all - what the f**k are disney playing at?

We get sweet double disc cases for all previous collectors editions that go amazingly well together (tarzan, atlantis, emperors new groove) and the 1st platinum also - snow white.
But now some disney goon feels they must throw this amaray shite our way. (no offence if you love amaray doubles)

I am annoyed:rar:

now i aint sayin the beauty and the beast packaging is rubbish, its very nice, but when you are producing the BIG 10, surely you want to create a real nice set of discs and cases that fit with each other to mark all the amazing films, not just throw something new our way, and now number 2 doesnt even remotely go with the superb snow white box.

STICK WITH THE COLLECTION DISNEY!

god knows what they are going to do to the treasures.

secondly - can anyone explain why they have put a roman numeral 1 on the spine as well? Could it be due to the enchanted christmas thing or something else?

sorry I had to get all this of my chest!

For me, this isn't a problem. All my discs are alphabetized, so it doesn't matter how a previous disc is pasckaged...unless it's something like Star Wars. If this comes out in a thick case, I'll be upset. Episode II will have a home right next to Episode I.

When I reviewed the Monsters Inc DVD for DVDToons, I made a point in the review about the packaging. I agree that all the collectors editions have been 2-disc thick cases and look a lot more "substantial" than the slimline cases.

Anyways, I wondered then if B&TB would come slim or thick, and up until now I've been hoping that it'd match Snow White. I guess not, which is a shame.

Seems this is the case in R2 as well - the first SW came in a deluxe case which opened out like a book, and did infact contain a mini-book on the making of the film. A slimline case for the two-disc set was inside, but at least the outer box looked great. Now, with B&TB, they're not continuing this trend, but instead having the disc in a cardboard box/sleeve. I've yet to see it in person, but from the pics, it won't match SW either.

I have my Disneys lined up in order of release, so it wouldn't go next to SW anyway (it'll snuggle between Rescuers Down Under and Nightmare Before Christmas), but a little consistency from Disney wouldn't go amiss.

What the HELL is the number one for? Are they now considering this the start of the Platinum Collection and Lion King will have a 2? Mystery...

bubblegumuk - spot on i forgot to mention monsters inc, and when that came in the post i was having wonders as to whether b&tb would come like that as well. and it did.

moogleporn - its not like its only a decorative thing either, the picture above is the slip case, but the numeral 1 appears on the actual disc case as well, clearly in a different colour.

I ponder its purpose

I am simply happy to have Beauty and the Beast on DVD, period. And speaking as someone from NYC, where space is precious, I'll take the slim packaging over the thick ones every time! After all, does it really matter that a case not match another in thickness?!

mentions a "Belle Collection" coming soon; they're also pushing the "Enchanted Christmas Special" DVD coming soon. Hopefully the numbers will only relate to movies with Belle in? Or maybe Snow White was secretly number 0?

No doubt that this is the reason for the "I", but wouldn't one think that Disney would want to at least separate their Platinum Collection movies from their crappy direct-to-video counterparts? I guess not.

Wow....... I am sometimes pretty amazed of the way some dvd-collectors almost seem to go out of their way to find something to complain about.
Even with this disc from Disney, crammed full of goodies at a fairly low price, gets a discussion over the fact that its cover doesn't match the other editions from Disney.... With the headline "Damn disney". Talk about being hard to please!

I guess it's the collector-mentality.....

This wasn't meant as a put-down of shofukamatchi by the way. Just had to get it off my chest

I hate that the case doesn't match Snow White and what is the deal with the 'I'?!

Man, I was hoping this would be in a double alpha case to match Snow White.

I actuallt prefer the slimline. Go figure.

Anyway, I checked this disc out last night...it's so damn nice that I wouldn't care if it came in a plain brown wrapper.

Mine is on the way from disneystore.com. If all plays well on my player, I will live with the packaging issues!

They're getting your money anyways, so I'm not sure how effective a protest that's going to be.

I probably did come across a bit strong though!

booklet info

I don’t know if this has been asked already Shofukamatchi, but on the back of the booklet does it say or not that the next Platinum DVD that Disney is going to be?

If it does is it The Lion King?

So your not supporting this release by buying two copies?

Basically, Disney is trying to get people to buy Beauty and the Beast II with that roman numeral. I am sure many completists will buy it as well. Obviously I'm not that grumpy about cases to not buy it, but it is upsetting that thehy try to take advantage of us consumers.

DVDkat - It would be nice for Disney to mention the next in the series, but unfortunately there is nothing, i guess its just too early.
However, it was confimed a while ago that the Lion King is the next platinum, rearing its head this time next year.

it was confirmed b/c the lion king is goin to IMAX. beauty and the beast went to IMAX before going to platinum so i guess disney thinks every1 will assume that lion king is next in the series.

Finally somebody said what I've been thinking. I just don't understand all the complaining about cases, to big, to small, snapper, dual-disc case..WHATEVER!
Isn't the content of the disc itself what really matters? I can care less about what the case looks like because all it does is sit on my shelf until I pull it out, open it, take the disc out and put it back.
I think we should be focusing on more important issues like why are most of Paramounts releases garbage still? Stuff like that. Not what the case looks like.
But to each-their-own. No biggie, like run1 said, not a put-down of shofukamatchi, just an opinion.
