Went to Circuit City to get The Scorpion King and The Rock: Just Bring it deal. First they didn't have Just Bring it, so they said to bring my receipt from Scorpion King and they would give me the discount on Just Bring it once they get it in. I was about to do that but then they all started getting all pregnant when I tried to use my print out SK coupon. So me and my badass coupon were out, hasta! At best buy they took the coupon, but didn't give me the other 5 dollars off for buying both SK and Just bring it. Although they did Price match CC prices. Ended up getting Scorpion King 11.99 and The Rock Just Bring it 12.99. Not bad I gues...

I have not watched it yet as I bought it during my lunch break.

From the case, the Extras look VERY scarce. I would call this a "bare-bones" release. It DOES have DD 5.1 audio (only) and an anamorphice widescreen "scope" (2.35:1 I believe) video transfer.

That's about it....

I picked up Firefox from DVD Empire for 13.99. The extras are minimal, but the Clint Eastwood: Director British doc is pretty cool. It features interviews with Clint and lots of behind-the-scenes footage. Dated, but interesting.

This is the first time I've seen this film in Panavision since 1982. Eastwood is a master of scope cinematography, and it shows in this flick.

I think the transfer rocks for a catalogue title. Eastwood's muted color scheme (especially in the USSR) comes across well, without being dull or lifeless. This is a dark film, in terms of lighting. Lots of shadows and night scenes, particularly during the first 90 minutes. Nice blacks and shadow detail.

The visual effects shots...well, grainy, grainy. Blame it on optical printers and old-school travelling mattes. IMHO, they look the best I have ever seen them since the Royal Cinema in 1982.

I'm glad to have this one!

I found Firefox at Best Buy today! Wasn't there yesterday, according to the blue-shirts. No Limpet, Frankenstein, Dracula, or Elvira yet, though. Grabbed FF, Cat's Eye, and Brew.
