MGM wants you

Hey there

This is your faithful editor. MGM has extended the offer to me to send in a list of most requested titles we get around here. Of course there are never any guarantees, but I'd like to send them some title ideas as they have such a huge catalog. Feel free to post your faves here; please don't email, I'll just check here in a week or so and send 'em off.

Thanks!

The Woman in Red (Wilder)

Read here:

Quote:
Hoping to entice audiences to "Fall in love all over again!" with some of their greatest romantic catalog hits, MGM has also announced a special Valentine's Day promotion set to unwrap itself on January 7, 2003. Making their first-ever DVD debuts are such 80's "classics" as Mystery Date, Secret Admirer, Making Mr. Right, director Randal Kleiser's controversial drama Summer Lovers, the Gene Wilder comedy The Woman in Red, True Love, Much Ado About Nothing, Tune in Tomorrow, and Music from Another Room. All are presented in anamorphic widescreen (except Summer Lovers, Secret Admirer and True Love, which are full screen only) and extras include trailers. Retail is $14.95 each.

How about that Special Edition of Robocop that they said they were going to release. Oh, and anamorphic widescreen versions of Annie Hall, Dead Man Walking.....

1. Escape From New York - A full blown 2 Disc Special Edition this time. It should contain BOTH the theatrical cut & Carpernter's Director's Cut.

2. Poltergeist - This classic film needs a 2 Disc SE as the version out now is crap.

3. Child's Play - This seriously needs to be re-released as a Special Edition. A Tom Holland/Brad Dourif commentary is just screaming to be included. Also, it would be nice if MGM presented the film in WIDESCREEN format this time around!

4. I'm Gonna Git You Sucka - One of the funniest comedies ever & MGM releases a sorry ass bare bones. All of the principles are still around today, why not have a cast commentary track or just Keenan alone?

5.Swamp Thing - Maybe not a 2 Disc-er, but certainly can be done better.

6. City Slickers - The version out now is pure crap.

7. RED SONJA - For us Conan completionist.

8. FX - Why hasn't this been released yet?

9. Hollywood Shuffle

10. A Fish Called Wanda - Done properly.

11. Dances With Wolves - Can be done much better than what's out there now.

12. Ewok Adventure & The Battle For Endor

13. Misery

14. Phantasm - Really good horror film needs to be released.

I would second a new Secret of NIMH release, at least in anamorphic widescreen, if not a full-blown special edition.

Also, I think MGM should have the rights to Without A Clue as it originally came out through Orion.

Hi Peter! I wish we saw more threads like this!

After browsing the MGM site, there are the titles I have:

NEVER BEEN RELEASED THAT I WOULD BUY:
* Wise Guys
* Hot Millions
* Real Men
* Ice Pirates
* Soylent Green
* Village of the Damned (original)

REFUSE TO BUY BECAUSE IT'S FULL SCREEN:
* Mr. Mom
* Child's Play

HAVE NOT BOUGHT BECAUSE NOT ANAMORPHIC
* Four Weddings and a Funeral
* Father of the Bride
* 9 1/2 Weeks
* Raging Bull
* The Great Escape

I note that I have purchased way too many non-anamorhpic MGM discs to date. I have 66 MGM titles in my collection, and 19 of them are non-anamorphic. Some of those I would replace, but not all of them.

If I'm allowed to jump back in here, then I'd like to add support for Red Sonja on my wife's behalf (she's been plotzing for this movie!), and for widescreen versions of both Secret of Nimh and Mr. Mom, and a desperate please as well for Ice Pirates and Avanti!

A nice box set of the Pink Panther films...preferably SE's...would be swell, too!

I'll second the Robocop suggestion. The version out now with the fucked-up soundtrack (someone should have their ass kicked for that!) is pretty atrocious. We want a Special Edition with both cuts of the movie, thank you.

I'll second The Secret of Nimh as well.

As for Poltergeist, I'm all for that. But I do believe that MGM no longer holds the rights to it. The edition I have is from Warner Bros. Complete with a crapper case.

PERSONA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And some of the other Bergman's they own. It would be so very very sweet to get some of the Bergman's that they remastered out on DVD! Franny & Alexander, The Passions of Anna, Shame, and Hour of the Wolf would be really cool as well, but Persona is one of the most important releases they could make. Hell, it is even included in Ebert's The Great Movies book, so it won't be a low profile release.

Robocop - for reasons above

Ten To Midnight - its bad in a good way for me.

The Curse of the Pink Panther - OK maybe I am the only who will buy but what the heck.

A Fish Called Wanda - reasons above

Dances with Wolves - for reasons above. I am waiting to buy this flick until it is release decent.

Reckless - Aiden Quinn and Daryl Hannah

Mr. Mom - please release this in a better transfer

9 1/2 Weeks - same reason as Mr. Mom

The Fountainhead - because Morticia brought it to my attention, she doesn't know but I want to watch as many Gary Cooper movies as I can. Thanks Morticia.

ROBOCOP BABY!!!!!!!!

Special Edition all the way.....and with a good transfer.

I noticed that AMC runs a P&S version of Robocop every so often and the transfer is ten times better than my ghetto DVD.

Also, I want the X-rated cut of the film, possibly with seamless branching.

Would like a special edition of Raging Bull, but even more importantly, these two catalogue titles:

NORTH (1994, Elijah Wood, Bruce Willis)
CLIFFORD (1994, Martin Short, Charles Grodin)

RAGING BULL! Special Edition, which is supposedly to be released soon (The end of this year apparently).... A nice big juicy two disc set, possibly with commentaries by Scorsese, De Niro and La Mottta (Pesci too)... deleted scenes (there's one in the trailer), docs.... I need one to replace my R2 '20th Anniversary Edition'.... This is my most anticipated disc..... EVER - even if you don't forward it, please enquire as to why this has been trapped in limbo for months

Region1 The Great Escape

Dear MGM,

Please can you look into remastering this title as Catalog No: 906680 has........

1: A 7-10% discolouration band on the extreme left hand side of the frame running throughout the entire movie.

2: Within this band you can visibly see on at least 5 occasions the set lighting & some stage hands/cameraman.

I do not remember my 1990's NTSC WS 2:35.1 Laserdisc being at the same aspect ratio as the DVD (2:70.1??) so can only assume that the newest transfer (circa 1998) was at the correct?? aspect ratio thus causing the glitch to become apparent.

Thank You
