Definitely getting Beauty And The Beast
Wouldn't mind later getting Honey I Shrunk The Kids and Muppet Christmas Carol, but those will have to be put on my Christmas wish list

Beauty & The Beast
Scooby Doo (the 11th but it is the same week).
I'm considering the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids & Honey, I Blew Up the Kid but does anyone know if they are in anamorphic widescreen. I had read somewhere a while back that these titles were going to be full frame.

Beauty and the Beast... Been waiting on this one for a long time.
I'd also pick up Muppet Christmas Carol if it were OAR.

What a week, a handful of my most-anticipated catalogue titles finally coming to DVD...and yet, Disney fucked up three of those titles - Jungle 2 Jungle, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and Muppet Christmas Carol by making them Pan & Scan only.

Of course, I have Beauty and the Beast on pre-order, but the only catalogue title I'm getting (on a week that four are coming that I have been waiting years for) is Houseguest...and I've already bought that, so that's that.

Way to go Disney!

Nothing for me this week. With the past few weeks being less than stellar, I have been able to buy a few of the older titles. Still waiting for the big hits in november.

As my avatar -- and several recent posts on this board -- obviously indicate, on Tuesday I will snap up the most important DVD release of the year for me: Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition! All three versions of the film, plus a heaping helping of extras...how can you say no to this one? Heck, I couldn't say no even if it was a barebones P&S edition with horrible audio and video and absolutely nada in the way of extras. It's one of the movies I decided I had to have on DVD as soon as I got a player, and the wait has been long, but from the looks of it very much worth it.

I would have snapped up a bunch of the Disney catalog titles releasing this week too but won't because they're pan and scan only (I'd get a P&S-only DVD for BATB if that was the only option, because it's BATB, but not for these less important movies.) If Disney ever decides to go back and redo these catalog titles in their proper ratios (don't even have to be 16x9), I'd pick 'em up, but otherwise I'll leave these alone despite my wanting them.
  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
  • Honey, I Blew Up the Kid
  • Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves
  • Muppet Christmas Carol
  • Jungle 2 Jungle

Stephen King's It was released last week. It is grainy as heck and has a terrible picture...possibly because it was blown up to a widescreen format it wasn't meant to have (it was a TV miniseries). Also, some scenes are edited. I am not a Stephen King fan, but my wife had wanted this badly. She adores Cat's Eye, as it looks perfect and is in its orginal form. But she's decided its a no-go on It.

Regarding My So-Called Life: Several web site e-tailers (DVDEmpire for one) had listed that they were going to sell this starting 10/8. That was just plain wrong, and they should have removed their listings by now (DVDEmpire has).

The MSCL set is an exclusive for now from Another Universe, a comic-book-type site that was the only one who agreed to retail the set originally...everyone else refused! Now that the pre-orders on the limited set got so huge, it will eventually come to retail, but there's no ETA right now. There's a possible chance it will hit by Christmas, but don't count on it.

For more about the exclusivity of the set, the confusion of the dude who made the set happen, and DVDEmpire's correction of the mistake, read up here.

The original date for this to ship from AU was June. Then 9/17. Now its "no sooner than a week or so after 10/8". Now, AU has some exclusive items: a lunchbox container that the box set goes in (that only goes to folks who ordered before the cutoff date; I forget what it was, but it's passed), and a bonus disc full of interviews and documentaries and stuff. These items will ship separatelly from the DVD's themselves, a few weeks later. But when the set hits retail, it won't have the lunchbox OR the bonus disc at all.

AU has had some problems with customer service and with double-charging some orders (which have slowly but surely gotten refunds; I must admit they are working hard to fix all the issues...and the CEO is in touch with the customers as much as possible via the MSCL site forum). Maybe you want to forego the extra stuff and hope it hits retail. It probably will, as I said. But they won't be this Tuesday...that's for sure!

Although pdjennings purchases a lot of movies, which I would do the same if I had the money he obviously has (or he makes as much as me and doesn't eat but instead just buys movies), I must ask the man how on God's green earth could he purchase a movie as horrible as Kazaam? Come on, I know you have some taste! But Kazaam? SHAQ? If it's a blind purchase, let me tell you NOT to purchase it Well good luck. Also, pdjennings, where do you purchase your dvds at?

Regarding my rant above about the My So-Called Life set:

Apparently the other show dropped yesterday and I didn't know about it until just now. According to this at the MSCL.com forum, Amazon will have it on 11/5th. Gee...that's only the 9th TV-on-DVD box set to release on that day!

As expected, no lunchbox or bonus disc unless you get the limited edition from AU, though.

Aw hush... I dig movies like that. It wasn't that bad....

And... usually BestBuy. But also Borders, Tower, and Costco.
