How to watch Brazil: Criterion Collection?

A little history: I saw the 142 minute cut of Brazil about 16 months ago, and is the first and only time I've seen it. I remember the arc of the story and the ending, but very few other details.

I finally ordered the CC today ($42 DDD) .. so am trying to decide how to watch it when it arrives. The 142 minute long cut first, then the short version, then the extras, or some other iteration?

I know the short version is a dramatically different experience that will of course alter the way I view the rest of the movie .. forever.

So, those of you that have seen it get to decide for me!

Disc 1 then commentary,

Disc 3, then commentary,

then, Disc 2.

I have Brazil Criterion, and honestly I only had interest in seeing Disc 1...

I say watch the extras first, to get the story of the movie, then the long cut. Throw the short cut in the trash.

Just watch the damn thing! So long as you don't watch the studio edited version (disc 3) first, you'll be happy. I DO recommend watching it eventually, though, because it's quite educational to see how it was "improved." The commentary is interesting, pointing out how it was dumbed down and basically diluted.

Don't even bother with the disk 3 version. It is the TV version of the film, cut for syndication and altered. Well, the was the cut that was supposed to come out in theaters in America, but luckily, Terry won that battle.

The version on disk one, is the one that came out theatrical PLUS some additions. He added parts of the Euro theatrical release to it.

The short version never came out in theaters and thank G-d. Because it is a mess.

He also removed a tiny bit, as well...the scene in which Lowry's mother is getting the plastic surgery was altered...Sam no longer says 'My God, it works...'

True. Why he removed that line, who knows. It is one of the funniest moments in the film.
