"The Last Don": Any good?

I saw it in the store today and was wondering if anybody has seen it and could give me their thoughts. I can't seem to find out much about it on the web other than what imdb has.

Thanks

It wasn't as good as the book, and it isn't The Godfather, but I have seen worse made for TV movies. It would depend on the price. I wouldn't pay more than $10. For that I'd just go read the book.

It was a decent enough movie. Like CCkyle said, it's not the Godfather but it holds it's own. It does have Joe Mantenga in it and Jason Gedrich holds his own pretty well. I'd pick it up.

I like both The Last Don and The Last Don 2 although I think the second one is a little better. I have the The Last Don 2 on VHS.

I like to refer to The Last Don as "The Godfather Lite." I have only seen the edited, two-and-a-half hour version, not the full-length version that's on the DVD. It's interesting enough to hold your attention, but IMO, it's got some pretty serious plot holes. For example:

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Why would the mob want to legalize gambling? As soon as that happens, it gets taken over by legitimate business, and the profit for criminals is gone!

I also have some issues with some of the characters. Daryl Hannah and Kirstie Alley are supposed to be playing tragic heroines, but that doesn't make them any less irritating.

But in the end, it's a good, compelling story, and the DVD is baout $25 and contains the full four hours. I would call that getting your money's worth.
