Where is the best place to buy anime?
I'm just getting into anime and have read several of the threads about what series and movies are good. My question is where is the best place to buy anime? Who has the best selection, prices and guide to what you are looking at with reviews?

Depends on the anime. Some stuff deepdiscountdvd.com carries and they usually have the best prices. If you can't find something there then I'd try planetanime.com
For reviews (and a forum better for asking where to buy) go to animeondvd.com. They even link several online stores at the top of their homepage. |

Probably right around the block...seriously. If you don't want to order online, check out local comic shops that carry anime DVD's and manga. First off they're some of the most knowlegdable people, and if/when you you become a regular shopper, they can be very friendly as well. While the prices aren't always the best, as compared to shoppnig online, you can definitely get honest opinions.

http://www.anisaki.com/ is good too. They don't have the best selection in the world, but they do get all the newest stuff in and the prices are good. They also cary a lot of imports, region 0 stuff and non-region 1. And no bootlegs to worry about.
DVDplanet.com, DVDempire.com, even Amazon have a large assortment as well.

DVDPlanet, especially since they sell the Central Park Media/US Manga Corps titles for 35% off MSRP and most of the older Pioneer/Bandai Entertainment titles for 35% off MSRP also.
Digital Eyes also has good prices on anime titles, 25% for recent stuff, up to 35-40% off for older titles. Amazon is pricey compared to the others and only give about a 10-20% discount, at most. DeepDiscountDVD is good if they have the titles in stock, but their selection is relatively limited compared to other places. For reviews, the only place to go is www.animeondvd.com.

I partially agree about the local stores... They can be knowlegdable, but most stores (at least in my experience) are expensive as hell... for example, cowboy bebop session 2 when ordered online is around 15$+shipping, at the local best buy or other store around here it is 25-30$ at best... Digital Eyes is pretty good with my experience, as is DDDVD, give them a shot.

Just wanted to mention that Planet Anime currently has a sale on any ADV Films DVDs for 35% off MSRP. I think the sale runs through the end of this week.
Check your local Best Buy stores, too. I've noticed that for some anime titles, they price them at 30-40% off MSRP. I picked up my Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 box set there, which is priced at $60 (33% off the $90 MSRP).
