X-Men 1.5 Cover art
Well folks, you can take a look at the cover art for the upcoming X-Men DVD here .
Personally, I think it looks kind of ugly, but I'll probably pick it up anyway.

Ugh. Why do they always insist on puuting big stupid ugly head shots on the covers of DVDs.
I understand that they need to advertise the stars, but they need to do a better job than cheap Photoshop cut and paste jobs with poor choices for material.

YUCK!!!
I love the cover on my current version. From the specs, I don't think I will be upgrading.

Uggg. What horrible cover art, and for an SE, for shame, for shame.
It's too bad they didn't leave the characters off, the big X would have been enough. I don't get the 1.5 either --this is the exact same theatrical cut, right?

It looks bogus, because from what I heard X-Men 1.5 was to be the title of a planned longer version of the movie. When that was scrapped, the 2-disc was just decided to be the original cut with the label Collector's Edition. Or that's what I think anyway.

Fox just really screwed up in the naming when they marketed the first DVD. Somehow, they're trying to cover their asses giving it a "1.5" label. Count me as one who will skip the 1.5 version. I'll wait until Fox really comes out with a worthy special edition DVD, maybe when the X-Men X^2 DVD comes out. Knowing Fox, they'll probably do a 5-Star version of both discs at some point.

What User and Rieden said
- what a stupid way to get people to double-dip by calling it 1.5, if it's not even deserving of the .5... sheesh...And those reds don't work for that movie cover at all. Funny how Halle Berry gets just as much cover space as Hugh, despite that she had about 5 lines in the movie ![]() |

Did you read the front page of that site? Unless this is all a hoax, this is what it says:
The Continuum has received a first look at the DVD packaging for X-Men 1.5, which will be released on Feb. 11. The image comes from a promotional flyer provided to retailers by Fox. According to the flyer, the two-disc set will include more than four hours of never-before-seen material, featuring: * 15 minutes through additional enhanced viewing mode. * All-new commentary from director Bryan Singer and actors Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. * A sneak peek at the X-Men sequel with "sizzle reel." It says 15 minutes will be edited in, but I thought it wouldn't be? It sounds like seamless branching, but I dunno.

I believe that the "15 minutes through additional enhanced viewing mode" will be like the White Rabbit feature on The Matrix. So I think it's just behind-the-scenes footage.

Well I sold my original copy not too long ago so I could upgrade... and I will... but damn that cover art is ugly! I'll be waiting for some decent custom art to hit the web in the meantime.

"Enhanced viewing mode" is a Fox thing. They had this feature on the original X-Men, and they use it on the X-Files boxes. Basically, you choose the "enhanced viewing mode", then watch the movie. Every once in a while, an icon (probably an X) will appear on the screen. You press enter, and then there's a pause while the disc locates the segment, which you watch (usually in low-res), and then there's another pause before you go back to the movie proper.
Basically, it's a shitty way of doing an alternate cut. Rather than using seamless branching, which would be better for the viewer but more costly for the studio, they just redirect you to the deleted scene itself while you're watching the movie. As for the artwork, I can only guess that they're trying to make it as unattractive as possible, and that the ultimate goal is for no one to buy the disc. Because based on that artwork, I don't want it. |

Better art. But the .5 gets on my nerves so much....I probably won't buy it. I've got My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Spy Kids II to occupy me on the same day, too, so I'll most likely pass.

Better art. The 1.5 is still a bit annoying. I would have chosen a better color scheme than black/white/red. Throw in a little blue and it'd be even better.
But of course, the cover isn't everything; it's the content that counts. I'm sure the disc will be impressive, but I've gotta ask, is that the actual disc art? Just a big 1 and 2?:p |

I would have to agree that it's not the best artwork, but I agree with the above sentiment that the contents are what counts.
The cover art is seen when I buy it, and briefly after I slide it out from between the other DVDs who's cover artwork I don't really see, and I open it to take the disc out. The spine is what counts more, in my opinion. I know I don't store my DVD's with the front covers showing. ![]() |

I don't know. But that brings up an interesting idea. If we were to voice to Fox about disliking the 1.5 in the title, would they just call it X-Men? I hope so.

Althought the cover art could definately be better, I wouldn't make it the reason NOT to buy the DVD. I had planned to own a copy of X-Men but never got around to it. I guess I know what to wait for now though. The only thing about the cover is the colors. Blue would have been a better choice, even with the same design.
Does anyone know what the case type is? It looks like it's going to be like the Fight Club DVD but I can't tell. I hope it's not in some keep case (not even the other X-Men DVD come in that). -Locke_

That would be cool, but I don't think X-Men was as legendary as Akira, as emotional as Band of Brothers, or as sentimental as the Disney Treasures. Mmmm... but that would be nice...
