Saruman vs. Dooku (Christopher Lee poll)
Which Christopher Lee performance released yesterday do you prefer? Saruman the White in LOTR:EE or Count Dooku in SW:AOTC?
I'll leave my pick and reactions until later tonight. ![]()

OK, this was difficult and the more I thought about it the more difficult it was and then it finally was clear.
I prefer him as Saruman the White because of that long flowing white hair and he kicked Gandolf arse!!! I mean one to one Wizard action! so there he wins! Easy. Although, that whole light saber thing was cool but no, its the hair that did it for me!

As Dooku, he gets to ride a cool flying motorcycle...
...but he doesn't get to say, "You will taste man-flesh!" Tie.

It was a tough decision. But I went with Saruman, because that was the performance I saw first, and it was too easy to compare Dooku to Saruman after that.

I was thinking more about this after I posted.
Let's compare the 2 characters.

Hell, Ive been calling Nov. 12 Cristopher Lee day for the past week!! How lucky does he feel to be a part of two of the biggest movie franchises ever. Too cool! He deserves it though.
I voted for Saruman. Naturally... |

I enjoyed both performances a lot..but I have to go w/Saruman. The role was much meatier and he had a ton more screentime. Christopher Lee is a certified, card carrying bad ass.

I went with Saruman also, for many of the reasons above. Still, it was a close call. I personally love the battle with Yoda, but for pure weight and intensity, his LORT character is genius.

C Roberts said that anyone could play Dooku...I don't know about that.
While yes, it is true he was perfect for Saruman, and that's why he was chosen for the part. Dooku was created for him. After he signed on, the sith lord character changed. It was originally supposed to be an alien (Kit Fisto, I think). So that part was made for Lee. But it took the actor to portray Saruman. Either way, he did great in both movies.

I guess I liked BOTH characters equally, but it's been SOOO long since I've seen AotC that I need to watch the DVD to refresh my memory of Dooku. I'll be casting my official vote later... ![]() Peace.....

I went with Saruman. I just can't get past the hilarity of a name like "Dooku" enough to really get into the character. I kept thinking "Heh, Dooku." Plus, Lee's Saruman performance was spot on.
Jerm, another comparison could be that both Saruman and Dooku have Freudian accesories. (Dooku's bent sabre, and Saruman's ball) ![]() |

I'm actually going to go with Star Wars' Dooku. He had more acting to do in that one I thought, whereas he had more of a bit part in LOTR. Maybe he's in Two Towers more, I dunno. Both were great performances though.

I'm going to vote for Lee as Saruman. I liked him in both roles a lot, but he made LOTR (something I had no exposure to prior to the film) enjoyable for me. He's definitely a great actor.

Dooku.
I don't like the subtle changes to Saruman in the movie version. I wanted the more lusting for the power third wheel feel than the wussy bowing servant one.

That said, I'll give it to Saruman. Character changes aside, it's the hair, like Prancer said! Oh, and the evil nose... ![]()

I went with Dooku in a very close call. Of course, I just watched AOTC today and that may have influenced me. Funny, since I watched FOTR yestarday. Dammit, I'd better watch them again...

Tough call, but in the end I went for Saruman. The hair is cooler plus I just love that gleam in Saruman's eyes when he's talking to Gandalf about Sauron, way cool!

If we are going on the power displayed by both characters in both films, then for me Dooku wins hands down! I mean he more than held his own against Yoda, the master of the force, right? RIGHT? Plus, according to my missus, there's "an alluring sexuality" about Dooku, whereas Saruman "just aint one for the ladies" - her words not mine!
No brainer, the Count kicks Sarumans arse and rides off with the dolly bird, although the less said about his bent saber handle the better!

****POSSIBLE SPOILERS****
you never know who is reading For me it has to be Saruman all the way. Don't get me wrong, Dooku kicks the ass of 2 Jedi's, holds off a midget (ain't easy fighting a midget, you try hitting low like that) and then makes his getaway. But he doesnt have the insane maniacal badass appeal that Saruman does. And sure Dooku has a lightsaber, but the handle is bent. Who wants a bent dildo of a saber? Saruman has a huge stick!!!! Nuff' said |

Saruman.
Lee brings alot of class and charm to AOTC. Dooku is a fine villian. But we see far too little of him. Saruman is all over the place and he is chilling. When you look at his close up during the duel with Gandalf and you see blood running down his face, he looked like a deranged Christ figure. Really unsettling. And c'mon, the guy was controling the very forces of nature against the heroes in LOTR. A great, great villian. (Although, as a fan of the book, I know where 1138 is coming from)

putting aside fotr's cinematic superiority to aotc, and lee's larger role in fotr, i still vote for saruman--mainly because lee gave the character such an incredible voice.

I think though, that its safe to say that Dooku would kick Saruman's ass in a fight. [/nerd]

Dooku kick Saruman's ass? My friend, Saruman is a lesser deity. An immortal spirit. You have no idea of what thou speaketh. [/geek]
