Disney Price Increase

Well, I'm posting this for tomorrow, kinda sad.

yes, the price hike is true. All the Disney animateds will be $39.95 now, same features! Also, The Bug's Life SE will debut 11/22 and be $49.95!

I got the updated info today from Disney themselves. Really sad, in my book. I will have fun ranting on this one tomorrow...

Peter:

Too bad you took the username of "Satan," cause if someone from Disney ever signed up what name would be left for them?

Luckily, I got my preorders in yesterday for the Disney titles before Reel hiked up the prices due to Disney doing the same. I cannot believe A Bug's Life SE will have a list price of $49.95! What the hell is wrong with Disney? They really need to start looking at Columbia TriStar's DVDs. Fifty bucks and it won't even be anamorphic, right? Any chance of another Shakespeare In Love miracle? Any clue as to what these "valuable" extras will be?

Guess I'm gonna have to cancel my pre-order for Pinocchio.

Just as soon as the bile in my throat settles....

Really, it's the principle of the thing. As if raising kids wasn't expensive enough already, the money-grubbing b@$^#*%s.

Unless I'm missing something "srp" allows the retailers to start pricing higher, but the market dictates where the final price will be. Until I see the discounts available with coupons and pre-order prices, I view this as a non-event.

Peter,

Is there a email address at Disney that we can send email, to inform that I will not be buying those DVD's for my kid for Xmas because of the price?

Thanks

Franko

Come on, Brian. Surely you must see that if the MSRP starts five dollars higher, then the price you're going to pay will be five dollars higher. You can bet that Di$ney is charging five bucks more to the wholesalers, and that increase will trickle right on down to us consumers, coupons, discounts and all.

Jose, I preordered some of the disney titles before the price increase. I called to see if my price would increase. To my surprise Reel said they would honor the original price for me. If they had not they may of had a couple of cancelations.

The Rock has posted comments about this elswhere, but he cannot say it enough.

Disney ABSOLUTELY SUCKS! Someone really should check Eisner's, or whoever is making the decision, ass direckily into The Smackdown Hotel and knock some sense into him.

Sheesh, Disney, like there wasn't enough ill-will on the 'net about you.

No, I'm sorry, I don't see it. Reel raised their pre-order price by only 3 dollars after this happened. To quote a cheesy jewelry commercial "nobody pays retail anymore, why should you".

if you check the dvd resource page http://www.dvdresource.com
you'll see that di$ney is doing this mostly to kiss the ass of retailers.

Well I fail to see the logic in Disney doing this to help brick & mortar retailers.

I must admit that due to a combination of being paranoid about hackers getting at my info, and wanting my dvds NOW, that almost all of the dvds I currently own (over 150) were bought at Best Buy. I typically buy two there each week.

Ironically, it's Disney raising their prices that is getting me to try 800.com and other online dealers. So at least for me, the Disney price hike is hurting Best Buy (costing them about 104 dvd purchases per year).
