Welcome to the wonderful world of DVD (and also welcome to this board)!

Well, here are some DVD's from the top of my head that all match your specification:

Contact
The Blues Brothers
Quest for Camelot
Ghostbusters
Tomorrow Never Dies SE
Dante's Peak

I'm sure other people will add tons of other titles here, so I'll clear the area now

I'll second Tomorrow Never Dies SE and Ghostbusters. Also, add to the top three Alien. In my experience, in terms of video quality, sound and supplementals, those are the top three discs to own. If you can't find the Tomorrow Never Dies SE, don't worry; it's being re-released in new packaging on October 19th.

For video, Mask of Zorro is phenomenal.

For sound, Titanic is the best disc I've come across yet.

For older titles that look damn good, I'd recommend American Grafitti, Casablanca and Singin' In the Rain. The latter isn't packed with extras, but for a while it was the disc to own because the video was so awesome.

Many enthusiasts also refer to The Fifth Element as a reference quality disc.

Well sod the quality, because the Kubrick Collection is the best DVD(set) I ever bought. I've been watching that constantly for a month even if there IS a little bit of edge enhancement...

You want best features and picture etc??
Well, here's your list!

Blade
The Thing - CE
12 Monkeys - CE
Alien
Fifth Element - no extras, but AWESOME picture/sound!
Ghostbusters
Armageddon - Criterion
Hardboiled - Criterion
Brazil - Criterion
Silence of the Lambs - Criterion
Antz - Signature Series
Tomorrow Never Dies - SE
Blade Runner - why? it's a classic!
Contact
Dances with Wolves
Starship Troopers

Okay, that'll keep you busy for weeks, if not months! I can personally vouch for all these titles as I own 'em all and many, many more! Welcome to the world of DVD - oh, and you have my sympathy, as you WILL become addicted and there's no known cure or re-hab centers!! It's pure "ideo opium"!

I second "Blade" strongly.

You also should consider picking up some of the older titles. I remember watching "Poltergeist," a film I've seen a million times in full frame on cable; but when you see it in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 Dolby Digital, cleaned up really well, you can fully appreciate what DVD can do for films (transfer alone).

Addict, I just had to second Brazil - Criterion, 12 Monkeys CE and Antz SC. Those three have to be the most often watched in my collection (but I don't have many yet...)

The best overall has to be between Antz SC and Contact. When you're talking about sound quality then Twister(Zone 2 - PAL version) Broken Arrow and True Lies stand out on Dolby Digital, while 12 Monkeys is simply stunning on DTS.

To show off what DVD does for older crappier looking movies: Ghostbusters

All in all Ghostbusters in THE BEST
