Q about Goonies commentary

does anyone know why Sean Astin leaves halfway through the Goonies commentary? i'm guessing to do work on LOTR, but don't know for sure.

anyone know?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Seriously, I wondered the same thing. I assumed that if anybody knew, it would have been noted on thegoones.com, and it wasn't.

I'm working from memory here (and it's past time for me to watch Goonies w/ commentary again) but wasn't Sean sitting next to Corey Feldman?

About half of what Corey was saying was pretty interesting, to me, and I think he's been underrated as an actor - but if I were sitting next to him, and suddenly got a call asking me to go swing swords at something (even a blue screen) I'd take off then and there, and be a good candidate for an award or two for those scenes...

But the departure of Sean Astin was sad, he seemed to have the most interesting stuff to say.

Nsaala kiambote.

One-Eyed Willy got him.

Seriously, considering the trouble it must have been getting every member of the kiddie cast back together again, the least Astin could have done was spend the entire 2 hours there.

Just seems rather thoughtless, especially to the fans.

I distinctly remember one of the cast members (I think it was Feldman) bringing it up that Sean Austin had left, and was wondering where he went. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought he came back later on in the recording and everybody rejoiced (maybe that was all just a glorious vision of mine).

In any case, how many other "Visual Commentary Tracks" are there besides this and "Jerry MaGuire"?

Mallrats has a video commentary, and Ghostbusters has a Silouette commentary

Muppets from Space has a silhouette commentary and so does Men in Black.

I remember that Sean had a message for Cyndi Lauper and Martha Plimpton kept inturrupting him. He never did actually say what his message was.

I, too heard that he left to do some ADR on LOTR... But he couldn't wait one more hour though? As Monterey Jack said, with all the trouble it was to get ALL the kids back, he could have spared 2 hours of his time.

Maybe he was pissed that Martha Plimpton wouldn't shut her freakin' trap long enough for him to get in a word so he left????

He probaly left because Corey was just too annoying. Now that I think of it, Josh Brolin looked as though HE was gonna walk out. He so did not want to be there.

I also assume Astin left to go do some work on LOTR considering it was being filmed around the same time the DVD was being put together.

Don't worry, he'll be back. After all, isn't Richard Donner now working on the Goonies sequel? YEA!!!! Corey Feldman now has somehitng to do!!!! (Now if they can make a sequel to The Lost Boys, we can get the other Corey back to work.)
