The Ring
When the heck is The Ring gonna be on DVD? The movie was so awesome. Any idea at all about when it comes out. I was hoping around March.

Not really sure, but I'm awaiting it anxiously.
Did you happen to stay at the end of the movie? I didn't, and I was thinking about it the other day, and thought it'd be funny if after all the credits run, it just stays on a silent black screen for a minute, and then has a phone ringing (it would be most effective just from the left speaker maybe). I wonder if they did something like this or not.

You can get the original Japanese R2 PAL format disc now.
Good stuff.

A friend of mine works at a marketing company that sends out all the screeners to video stores for Universal and Dreamworks.
He is working on the kit this month, and usually 2-3 months later is when it hits stores. The kit he is sending to the video stores includes the original Ringu from Japan. So if they are sending this in a screener kit, I am sure Dreamworks has the US rights to it and will release it around the same time. |

Good to hear
I really, really enjoyed the original but didn't get a chance to see the remake. I hope the original gets here soon! I heard that Buena Vista snagged the rights but I'm hoping Dreamworks may have, not for any real reason but maybe Dreamworks could have a bit more time to get the DVD right ![]() |

One of my cousin's friends is really upset because he was at a horror convention before the film really got much advertising and saw tapes marked "The Ring" in a box with some posters for the movie, etc.
Later, he found out that they were promotional tapes that were just the footage from "the tape" in the movie. As if you just got a copy of "the tape". Isn't that creepy? Still, I hope that's an extra on the disc-- to be able to just watch the video footage fullscreen.

If they didnt include the original "tape footage" that would be one of the biggest missed opportunities in DVD history.
Anyone interested in watching the video can see it here: http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/374/374128p1.html

Hey, thanks for the link of the video clip of the tape footage. That's really cool to have. I was creeped out all over again watching it and really expected the phone to ring after it was through. I wonder how many people d/l it, watched it and the phone DID ring by coincidence? Heh, heh....
Can't wait for the DVD! Miggy, the Thief

I was gonna record it on my dad's laptop onto my video camera and it will play fine. Then drop the tape in school.

I'd love a trilogy box set, but nobody is interested in releasing the sequels. I thought besides the scientific angle (Which I'll forever compare to Exorcist II in content and shoddiness...) Ring 2 had a LOT of great moments in it (Great enough for the remake to lift a scene out of it, though I would have liked it to be EXACTLY like what happened in Ring 2) And Ring 0 at least had a great ending. But I've decided you can't be afraid of a character anymore if they show her in a fuzzy pink sweater. I'd probably say around March/April for the remake release. 3 months time after it opens for them to release the information, 3 months until it comes out. |

If you like the Ring films, you might want to take a look at Ring Virus, it's a Korean film based on the same book. A lot of people like it better than Ringu.

DW should include online registration with the DVD, through the ROM material. When it asks for your number? Enters it into a database and calls you seven days later. Hehe. Pure evil.

I hope the original Ring gets released in R1. I've watched the R4 PAL DVD version many a time and though its a great movie, the actual DVD transfer is sub standard. Grain, scratches, white dots, black dots and all other elements that make the picture quality suck is very viewable. Sound ain't that great either... so hopefully a release in R1 will see a cleaned up print for the transfer. Fingers crossed
