The Crimson River

I just bought this movie blind and had a few questions. First off I remeber seeing a trailor for this movie one time and thinking it looked really good. After that one trailor though I never heard anything about it again. Never saw it play at any of the theaters around here or hear anyone talk about it. Since I havnt opened it yet I was wondering if anybody could give me their impressions of this movie. I cant watch it for another three hours since I am at work so if it suxs I could just take it back to the store instead of staying up this morning and watching it.

Thanks for any help

Spoilers

I am a big fan of Jean Reno and I have wanted to pick this up for some time. I have yet to find it for under $26.99, so I am holding off for a better price as it would be a blind purchase.

Well from what I understand this movie did well enough to be granted a sequel (Crimson Rivers II - Angels of the Apocalypse) and Jean Reno returns as Commissaire Niemans. Luke Besson returns as well.

Not a gore movie, but "The Crimson Rivers" has been quoted as being the French answer to "Se7en" but rather than focusing on the crimes, it focuses more on the investigations of the crimes. The beauty of the cimematography has been compared to the panoramic scenes in movies such as "The Horse Whisperer."

So as soon as I find this at a good price, I'll be picking it up blind.

The only beef I heard about this DVD was the English dubs were not as good as they could be. I presume you can watch it in French with English subtitles, but the French track is 2.0. You get a 5.1 English track plus a 2.0 English track and subtitles in both languages. Extras include commentary, documentary and three featurettes.

Kassovitz rocks

The director Mathieu Kassovitz is a great young director, and Vincent Cassel is an incredible actor.

I had seen La Haine by Kassovitz and when I found The Crimson Rivers i bought it in a second, that being said, while i was thoroughly impressed with the technical aspects of this film, the plot lacks. It's one of those stories where the premise is on shakey ground to begin with.

I'll tell you this, I think if they would've made the story a little more realistic and stayed with what it first appears to be, it'd be a better movie, but its still enjoyable.

That being said, the DVD rocks, there's tons of great special features, if only they had subtitles on the audio commentary.

A decent movie with great acting and the technical aspects are fabulous. I found the ending to be on the weak side, but generally I can recommend it.

There is a confirmed sequel being made with Reno to return - don't know if Cassels will be on board.

OK the temptation was killing me, I had to buy this.

I couldn't quite find it for 10 bucks like LemJe did, but a few searches netted me a 17.99 price (new) so I picked this up Sunday.

As it was said before..its at Wal-mart, for $10. I had watched this movie several times and yes, the ending is a tad weak, I enjoyed it enough that when I saw it for $10 , I had to get it..

I also picked my copy up at Wal-Mart, but I paid $14.99. I'm also A big Jean Reno fan, so much so I bought "The Crimson Rivers" blind, and didn't even bother to read the summary just the specs.

I enjoyed the film, and whould agree with Flash Ahhh comment "Not a gore movie, but "The Crimson Rivers" has been quoted as being the French answer to "Se7en" . Just don't expect a great ending like"Se7en" . Infact I beleive "The Crimson Rivers" weakest point is the predictable ending. I agree with the whole of xxjobseyes post. He pretty much sums up the film.

I agree that the dubs a pretty bad, but then agian I usally always listen to the original language track. If my memory serves me correctly "The Crimson Rivers" DVD does has both and English French 5.1 DD track. I'm just about positive I watched it with French 5.1.

I decided it was only ten bucks so I could afford to watch it and not worry about it. Anyway I thought it was a fairly enertaining movie but agree with everyone that the ending was somewhat lackluster. Some parts of the movie did have a nice creepy atmosphere. Not as good as I thought it would be but I am not upset about owning it at all.
