I love my wife. She drove the 30 miles after dropping my son off at school to pick this one up for me.

Thanks to Best Buy's 25% off all Disney items promotion this week, I finally buckled down and bought Cars. It deeply saddens me that this is the best we're going to get for that movie, but I've waited a year for the double dip and the only better release that's shown up is the Blu-ray Disc. So for $14.99, I just went ahead and got it. With Ratatouille coming in the same fashion in a couple of weeks, we can assume the era of Pixar's fantastic 2-disc sets is over. I love the films themselves and will continue to buy them, but still, what a crying shame.

I also recieved my rebate check from Buena Vista's yearly TV on DVD multiple purchase rebate, and with it I had enough for Meet the Robinsons right now too. Due to money reasons I hadn't planned on getting it until later, but I'm glad to own it now. This will mean I won't have enough for Spider-Man 3 next week, but I suppose I can get it for completion reasons later since it wasn't a very good movie anyway.

Ratatouille -- yay! As usual with Pixar, this was one of the best films of the year, and I look forward to revisiting it many times on DVD, even if the disc itself is pathetic in the extras department.

My local Hollywood Video closed too, just this last Sunday! You've been lying all this time about living on the east coast haven't you? You really live across the street from me I bet!

Though the disc's content (or lack thereof) is disappointing, I got Ratatouile from Target on Tuesday with their bonus disc, which they say has around 20 minutes of additional bonus content. Hopefully it will add to the substance of the overall purchase. Either way, I am glad to have the film, which I still think is among the top films this year and one of Pixar's very best.

Then today, thanks to Best Buy's $6.99 sale this week, after many years of waiting and wanting it I have finally become the proud owner of Disney's The Sword in the Stone. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they double dipped it sooner or later in simmilar fashion as their other mid-range animated reissues of the past couple years, but those never really add all that much worth holding out for anyway. More importantly, from what I've heard it has a nice disc to begin with, and it seems a good deal more packed than most Gold Collection titles. Even if not everything has to do with the film itself, from the sound of it the bonus material does have some relevance and adds value to the package. Which is why I finally went ahead and got it today. The fact that $6.99 is the new record lowest price I've ever paid for a DVD doesn't hurt either.

I have seen the movie before, but not in *ages*, so I am really looking forward to rediscovering it. I deliberately try to distance myself from some of the higher-profile releases well in advance of their coming out (i.e., even though 101 Dalmatians is sitting across the room from me right now, there will probably be no watching that until the DVD gets here.) This makes it much more exciting to finally get the movie on disc and, because so much time has elapsed since I last saw it, it is *almost* like watching the movie for the first time a second time. Does that makes any kind of sense? It doesn't so much make a difference with Lion King, Aladdin, et.al because I literally memorized those movies growing up, but others, it does.

With Sword in the Stone, though, I haven't even had to distance myself on purpose, it just happened. We never owned an official studio-liscenced copy of it on VHS; it was one of many that Dad simply taped off the Disney Channel of old (ahhh, good memories, and they probably wouldn't even air
