Bourne Identity: Your thoughts?

I watched this DVD last night and it was my first time seeing the movie. Great movie!

I was also impressed with the DVD quality. I listened to the dts audio and LOVED it! I'll watch it again and check out the DD audio.

I checked out the alternate ending and the extended farmhouse scene and that's it. These scenes MUST have been encoded as video because my player combed SOOO much (Pioneer DV-656a) that I felt my own _hair_ being straightened out! I guess this is one instance where DCDi would have come in handy....

Anywho, what are your thoughts regarding Bourne Identity?

Peace......

The first time I saw the movie, it was at the Rhode Island premiere of it and it was being sponsored by the local alternative rock station, so it was more like a party (and I won a free hat, too ). As far as the movie itself, I was very impressed because I wasn't expecting much from it. So I knew I just had to pick up the DVD.

When I popped it in my player, it was awesome. Excellent picture quality and the DTS was done very well. I haven't gotten to the extras yet, but the video and audio are well worth the price of admission.

I didn't expect much when i went in to see it last summer but wound up loving it. I have been a fan of Doug Liman since SWINGERS back in '96. I thought GO rocked too and he brought those indie sensibilities to big budget action. My only objection was the stupid and unnecessary role that Julia Stiles played. What is she like 18 and shes a CIA operative? That was lame. I already picked it up yesterday.

Bought it yesterday and watched it last night for the first time.

I loved it - the movie never let up, always kept you guessing which I love. The video looked outstanding and love the DTS !!! epecially during the great fight scenes - Wow !!

I watched the deleted scenes which I thought were interesting - added some to the movie.

Also viewed the alternate ending which in my opinion the ending in the movie is the best.

I want to check out the Director's Commentary - it should be interesting and hppefully add to my enjoyment of this movie.

I bought it blind last night and watched it also and found it to be very good. I was impressed with the job Matt Damon did.

We went to see this at the cinema when it was released. We enjoyed it totally!

Another friend liked it better than Minority Report.

We felt these films couldn't be compared because they are so different in style. We thought both were good but if we had to decide, Bourne would win.

*******spoiler***********

love the car chase! so many cool scenes, like in the apartment. Great locations. I love movies set in European countries.

am i the only one that didnt like it? I saw this flick in the theatre, and i thought it was real bland. I was slouching in my seat and lookin at my watch, BORING! It wasn't really exiting or entertaining. I do love the car chase, but otherwise I felt it was a ripoff to a ton of other spy movies that I've seen and haven't seen. I know you guys think I'm wrong, but that's how I felt coming out of the theatre. Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future

I saw it in the theater & it has been on my must have list for dvd ever since.

I think they did a great job on the audio/video/extras. A very nice addition to my library.

I'm not exactly a fan of the genre but I rented it...and I too found it to be quite boring and predictable.

Like many of you, I wasn't expecting much when I picked this one up yesterday. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was actually pretty good.

I wasn't expecting much either but was fairly impressed by it. The car chase scene was nice (and lasted a long time.) I agree that Julia Stiles was a little out of place but it didn't bother me too much. Pretty standard movie though IMO. I have no desire to purchase unless I get it really cheap.
(Pitty I didn't have time to watch any extras. I needed to return it to be released yesterday. )

I thought it was great. Hopefully we will see more Jason Bourne movies soon. It is definately a franchise for Universal , Matt Damon and Doug Liman.

So far so good on this movie. Never thought I'd see the day where Matt Damon makes a action movie.

Also, two free DVD's by mail since I bought this and Blue Crush.

Still need to check out the alternate ending.

Saw it at the theater and didn't much care for it. Damon was good (better him as an action hero than Ben "Buzz Lightyear" Affleck), but Franka Ponente(sp?) was dull as dirt (their "romance" was utterly by-the-numbers), and the overhyped car chase was poor-man's Ronin (here's a hint: chase scenes through narrow European streets should always mow down some unlucky civilians, unless the film is PG-13). Plus, for a film that was supposed to be the kickoff to a potential franchise, the ending left little for Jason Bourne to discover in future installments (we know everything about his past now). The film is okay, yet bland and forgettable. C+

I like dit. Just saw it tonight after being let go from work early (very slow and my manager wanted to project ) Anyways i thought Damon did a great job as Bourne and was convincing as this martial artist secret agent guy. The scenery was great and so was the action. I would of like dmore but oh well. The surrounds were active and great and so was the music. The car chase scene was cool and nice to see done without any need for a big KA-BOOM froman exploding car chasing them. No CGI all pure stunts and action. Which was a nice change for once. Too bad my mom didn't like it that much.

I rented it in full screen because my Video store got screwed on their shipment (no widescreens came in). I got home, started watching, and was amazed how good the transfer looked! The DTS soundtrack was especially good (the wind and waves whipping back and forth in the opening scene, thunder, etc..). Only a half hour into the movie my phone rang and I got stuck on a call :rar: At this point it was getting late so I returned it the next day, saw that the widescreen version was in and BOUGHT it. Excellent movie - great soundtrack, fantastic transfer.

i liked it a lot. watched it last night and thought matt did a good job (won't bother with affleck and jack ryan--no way). i didn't quite understand why julia stiles was in it, but she didn't really bother me.

the car chase was really cool. i was in italy this past october and those narrow streets really reminded me of that. awesome. i also really like the fight scenes. my wife jumped several times when someone popped out at him!

did anyone else notice that when he's cutting hair, its not what it turns out to be later? when he's sawing it off with the scissors it looks way shorter. when she wakes up in the morning, its a bit longer and very nicely styled. and why didn't he change his hair?...

oh well, nitpicking. very cool movie.

I haven't read the book but I tried to get through the Richard Chamberlain miniseries years ago.

My wife and I saw this new version on the spur of the moment in the theater and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've since read a review that called the scenery drab, but I thought the scenery was terrific! Made me want to go back to France!

Jason Bourne is a great character and Matt Damon was perfect (to my surprise). I would enjoy seeing this turn into a series a la 007 or Jack Ryan. (btw...I thought this was better than Sum of All Fears which I saw on the same day...I'm not getting the DVD of that one.)

I bought this blind and I think it was pretty good but a tad dissapointing in some areas. It's a well-made little movie, although a little too predictable and plain sometimes. I think the Run Lola Run actress did a great job even though the movie didn't give her many lines or things to do besides follow Bourne around. (Was it like this in the book?) There's not too much replay value once you go through the DVD once. But that's just me.

I do like Matt Damon as the main title character though. He's not empty-headed or two-dimensional like most action heroes today. They did a pretty good job in not letting this film turn into another cookie cutter explosion-fest.

I bought this blind, too, and I guess it's alright. At least it looks and sounds pretty great.

I have to agree with the earlier posters about Julia Stiles... Why the hell was she cast for this role? Luckily she doesn't have much screen time in the movie. If they had made her a mute, that would have been even better.

Wasn't it 'cute' seeing Clive Owen driving a BMW? But the 'chase' between a junk Mini and a bunch of little cop cars left me disappointed. Perhaps it was because I was watching this at 1am, but couldn't they have stolen a nice BMW or Mercedes to smash around and allude the police with? I guess if you want a good car chase, go to the car chase thread.

If Universal wants this Jason Bourne character to be a franchise... They've got a crapload of work to do. Nice transfer, nice sound, and Franka Potente was nice to look at. John Powell's score is a throwaway effort. I'd recommend The Bourne Identity on DVD if it had a price tag of $10 or for a rental. I'll watch it again for the commentary soon and then it will sit unwatched until I have the urge to watch an impotent car chase again.

Also, I have a minor issue with the strange layout in the "bonus" menu. Why aren't the alternate ending (did that really require a sticker on the wrapper?) and the 'extended farmhouse sequence' under the "deleted scenes" menu? The deleted scenes have the most horrible aliasing problems I've ever seen in my life. Even $4 GoodTimes DVDs look better than those outtakes. Oh well, better than nothing.

I wasn't really that impressed with the film. I may have to give it a second chance...

I thought it was one of the best movies of 2002. Finally a spy movie that was just great. I was getting tired of the recycled James Bond movies and the god awful pieces of shit like XXX. It was the first action movie that I liked in a long time. I saw it in the theater after someone recommended it to me, I didn't really think it looked like anything special, but I was a fan of Doug Liman, so I went. I am so glad I saw this on the big screen, I would have been kicking myself if I didn't. Great, great movie and I honestly can't believe someone who likes movies, thought this movie was boring. Very weird reaction.

I love Long Kiss Goodnight. But chlngr, wasn't the character in that one a girl?

I didn't even think about it as being similar but now that you bring it up, they are. Both are good film. Higly entertaining. I liked Bourne but it was cool to see Geena Davis kick arse and hear her say : suck my balls in German dubbed.
