Canadian Trainspotting DVD

Does the canadian dvd of Trainspotting have any additional features over the bare american release? I've decided to finally pick this one up and would like to get the best version out there. Thanks.

The Canadian version of the 'Trainspotting' DVD has deleted scenes, and I *THINK* that the first part of the movie isn't dubbed over to make things more understandable (Which is what they did when they brought it over to the US.) but I'm not completely sure about that.

That's right - it's not dubbed. The Canadian DVD is exactly the same as the film that I saw when I first viewed it in England.
Too bad the Criterion version (on Laser Disc) isn't out on DVD - it had a cool insert with a glossary of all of the terms used in the film.

I'm keeping the Criterion LD for the Commentary Track.

And the Canadian DVD states on the package that it's supposed to have the "glossary insert" but it doesn't. It does have deleted scenes (the same as the Criterion LD), and it also has the writer & director introducing the scenes and discussing them a bit (not on the Criterion LD).

Also, the 2nd side of the disc (it's a flipper) has like 60 minutes of train audio (like if you just put a recorder at a train station and let it record) broken up into a couple of different tracks. It's actually kind of cool as background sound.

But, beware, it has bad packaging, and arguably, the ugliest menus in the entire world.

I'm holding out on it still, hoping for a SE that'll beat the Canadian edition ala Pulp Fiction.
Isn't there also a sequel in the works? Smells like a good time for a re-release!

Get the best version: The Criterion Laser Disc. If you don't have a LD player, get one now. You have to have one to listen to the Taxi Driver & Raging Bull commentaries anyway...

Sure there is. I just put it in again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

Mine's a flipper. The 2nd side is train sounds. I got it when it first came out. I don't know if they changed it since then.

Here's a link that talks about it (and the difficulty to get it playing sometimes):

Thanks for your responses guys. I think I'm going to pick up the canadian dvd (alas, I have no laserdisc player). Menu's and packaging can be cool, but it's the content that counts in the end.

My Canadian DVD does not have a second side which train noises. It has a label, and I suspect that current pressings do not include that feature.

My Canadian DVD isn't a flipper either, but it does have a printed glossary of some of the slang heard in the movie (not as comprehensive as the glossary at the back of the novel though)
