Best car chases in a movie.

With the release of The Bourne Identity, I was curious as to what you guys think are some of the best car chases you've seen in a movie before. Of course most people will say Ronin and The French Connection, and if you guys want to second those, then be my guest. I'm not going to stop you.

But I'd like to say (and I know I'll be shot for this) The Transporter. I don't know who wouldn't like that movie because it's one of the most entertaining in 2002. And I happened to greatly enjoy that opening chase sequence. (And the announcement of the DVD release date is something I am very happy about.) So that's where my vote goes.

What do you guys vote for?

To Live and Die in L.A. (Why isn't this on DVD already???) has a very good car chase
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
heading the wrong way into oncoming traffic on the freeway.

Coincidentally, the film was directed by William Friedkin who also helmed The French Connection, another film with a great car chase.

Ronin. It's great because it's real. Those cars are actually moving at high speed.

The Rock has a pretty decent car chase, with the Hummer and Lamberghini.

The Great Chase (Hmm...movie name might be wrong, but I'm thinking of the movie with the classic mini0cooper chase)

Gorgeous. the Jacky Chan movie...I think this is the right one, but it has a fun car chase.

Do the speeder bikes in Return of the Jedi count? How about the speeder Bike part II scene in Episode 1?

The Rock. Hummer vs Ferrari.

Speaking of Episode II, how about the whole chasing of the bounty hunter through Coruscant.

The French Connection has the best car chase in film history. Not only the fact that the driving was great, but it was how it was FILMED.

My favorite chase scene is the truck/car chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

French Connection's a very close second.

Honorable mentions:

Cobra (the one in the middle, not the one at the end. Guys on motorcycles chasing a guy with a machine gun - not smart)

Mad Max (warm-up for the Road Warrior's brillance)

Goldfinger (The 1st and best Bond gadget car)

Speed (80% of the movie's a chase scene)

Lethal Weapon 2 (two good car chases in that one)

note to studio: NO CGI was used in any of these chase scenes and that's why they are thrilling. Real people, real stunts, real thrills.

I completely agree. That chase kicks ass EVERY time. Hopefully soon we can see it in picturesque widescreen w/5.1 sound on DVD. *Fingers crossed*

Of course, most of that scene in Raiders wasn't a "chase"...

My mind is a bit foggy but I'm thinking that the movie with the Minis is "The Italian Job."

One of my favorite car chases is in "What's Up, Doc?" It takes place in San Francisco, involves a bunch of cars, makes good use of the hills and views, and it's really a FUNNY movie.

Gone in Sixty Seconds is pretty cool, so was Blues Bros.

Along with the ones that have already been mentioned, I really like The Peacemaker chase in 'Vienna' (aka Bratislava) as well. Mercedes Benz S-Class Guard vs. a bunch of old 5-Series BMWs? That's good stuff. It sounds great in dts, too, even if the damn music is mixed way too loud.
