Help! What is this a quote from?

I quipped a line to my wife today, and I cannot recall where I'm quoting it from:

"Is Batman a transvestite?...Who knows?"

This is from a film or TV show I probably watched in the 80's or 90's, I'm guessing. A guy asks a dumb question, and the line above is his response. I'm even sure it's among one of my 1900 DVDs!

I did an IMDB search, a Google search, a Metacrawler search, and even searched this forum and others. No results. The line is well-quoted, but the source is never identified!

Anyone with a good memory able to pin this down for me? Thanks!

This was said by Robert Preston in the movie S.O.B. Preston
gives a shot of medication to Julie Andrews and Robert Webber
asks- "Will she be OK to work?" and Preston's reply is "Is
Batman a transvestite- who knows?"

S.O.B. is a great forgotten movie.

Brava! Thank you, thank you, thank you! THAT'S THE ONE!

Just before she shows her boobies...how could I possibly forget? I guess my mind was on some other part of that film!!

I cannot believe the IMDB doesn't list it among their memorable quotes. Thank you so VERY much for having a great memory!

No problem. Always happy to help. BTW I just remembered
that it wasn't Robert Webber who asked if she can work-
it was Richard Mulligan.

Honestly, Jeff, I didn't read any other part of your post except for "S.O.B."; that reminder let it all come flooding back to me!
