Probably a region 0 copy, like mine. If you are willing to wait a region 1 version is coming.

And does the DTS sound kick serious arse or what? Especially at the climax! Won't say what happens.....but the sound matches the movie VERY well.

That R0 is a fine disk for an HK distributor. It doesn't have any features really (even if it did, they'd be in Cantonese or something), but the transfer is nice (though letterboxed) and that DTS track is awesome.

This is the one disk that makes me wish I had DTS, as there's no 5.1 DD mix included so I'm stuck with the 2.0. From the previous comments, I'm assuming the surrounds are put to great use?

i wasn't blown away by the transfer or DTS, but it certainly got the job done. anything more sound-wise might have been intrusive rather than immersive. i don't buy a lot of HK stuff tho, maybe this is super sound-wise for HK discs.

It is pretty super for HK discs.

So the DTS track is OK, better than most HK discs, but it's no Lord of the Rings.

Movie is well worth it though.

I'm waiting for the R1 DVD coming from Lion's Gate.

Otherwise a VCD of it is sitting on my computer, but it's a chinese VCD rip so it has dual chinese/mandarin soundtracks. Bleh.

My copy is the region 2 version that was released in Britain this week. It has 5.1 but no DTS, loads of trailers, a making of and filmographies. It's got a good transfer and a great 5.1 mix. I was very impressed.

When is this being released in Region 1?

I already have the Region 0 version, but I'd like to see some extra features (assuming that the R1 will have some).

Is there any truth to it being very similar to "The Sixth Sense"? I'm curious because I (like lordcrumb) am a huge fan of ghost stories and scary movies in general, but I didn't care for "The Sixth Sense" (which wasn't scary in the least)....

The biggest similarity to Sixth Sense is the "seeing dead people" thing. The Eye is MUCH, MUCH scarier. (The Sixth Sense wasn't scary at all)

well i saw it!! it arrived yesterday morning and i watched it with a bunch of people last night. the DTS did kick much ass and i was very impressed with the production values. i guess i just dont scare very easily though . from the way people on here have been going on about this movie i was expecting to brown my shorts during the opening credits, but it hardly got my heart rate up. it was alot of fun to watch my friends freak out though, especially duing the elevator scene!
i liked it enough to keep it, and for $8 how can you go wrong?

after they left the girl's village and the mother reconciled with her daughter, i though that was going to be the end and i was pretty disapointed and was ready to get on ebay and dump it, but little did i know... it wasnt over!

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):

when the climax hit and the sound kicked in and there was that Independence Day-esque shot i nearly fell off the couch. did anyone else think that the long shot down the street looked like it had been lifted directly from ID4 with a little digital editing here and there?

all in all i'd have to strongly reccomend this film, its well worth the few dollars you'll spend on ebay.

And the Dumb Comment of The Day award goes to.... YOU!
All the Panorama Entertainment DVDs of The Eye are legit HK DVDs. They're region 0, but NOT bootlegs. Just because it's from HK and is Region 0 does NOT mean it's bootleg. And I hardly think a bootleg would have a great DTS track, either. Both hkflix.com and AznFilms.com sell the Panorama Entertainment version, and NEITHER of them sell bootlegs.

You dumb piece of shit.... everyone who knows about hk discs knows that 90% of ebay sellers sell bootlegs... There are a few who sell the real thing and they never sell for under $10.. WTF do you know about anything? Go to any Hk cinema forums like kfccinema.com and say what you just said... they'll piss in your face... And if its a direct copy... virtually no quality is lost during the reproduction, so what does the dts track have to do with anything...

Besides read what you wrote "All the Panorama Entertainment DVDs of The Eye are legit HK DVDs"

no shit... then that must mean i'm talking about all the non-panorama discs... All the boots are copies from th panorama discs anyway so the cover and qaulity and what not would be the same"..

It's NOT a bootleg.
I do know what I'm talking about, because I'm been quite experienced with HK DVDs. I will agree a lot of HK DVDs sold on Ebay are bootlegs/direct copies, but I know for a fact that at least 90% of the copies of The Eye are almost definitely not bootleg copies. I bought it myself off of ebay for like, $8 (though I traded it to my friend for Princess Mononoke, got a good deal out of that ), and it was completely legit. I recommended it to multiple friends, and one or two of them ordered from hkflix, and another got one from Ebay (from a different reseller), and they were all the same exact copy I recieved. I've seen direct copies of HK DVDs compared to legit copies, and you can always end up finding differences; and if these were direct copies, they're perfectly pulled off, because I could tell NO differences. Even though this is a bad example to prove that The Eye copies on ebay are not bootlegs, it still goes to show that not all cheap copies of The Eye under $10 are bootlegs.

I guess its hard to argue from there.. But who knows how advance bootleggers get...

xenno and orf, both of you, calm down.

Comments such as "you dumb piece of shit" and "Dumb comment of the day" are personal attacks and uncalled for here, as well as being against Forum rules.

The Admins and Mods are reviewing this thread, in the meantime, it's shut down. If any disciplinary action is to be taken, both of you will be PM'd.

OK, this thread will be reopened for now, but this is not the place to debate whether Ebay copies are boots, and certainly not the place to call each other names.

We are still reviewing what actions, if any, will be taken against the parties in question. Please PM me or any other Mod/Admin on duty if you have any questions/concerns rather than posting your views on this separate matter in this thread.

Any posting after this that:
...discusses boots
...questions Ebay copies as boots or not
...involves name calling
...brings up why this thread was closed, or questions the Mods/Admins about it

will render this thread padlocked. Again, there's a PM feature, we'd rather you use that to communicate with us.

"victim" or no...

i'm very happy with my disc, regardless of its, um, authenticity. i figure it's a decent transfer with a nice dts soundtrack, and i spent less on it than it would have cost me and my gf to see it at an artsy type theater (which i never even saw it advertised as playing at here). i like the movie enough that i'll probably buy the R1 when it comes out, if it's feature-packed.

OK, just got my copy from ebay, popped it in, and watched it this evening. maybe i'm too tired from the long work week and shoveling snow for an hour this afternoon, but can anyone explain a few things to me?

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
1. i get that the ghosts we see don't have their own individual story arcs, but what of the boy who was asking for his report card? in one scene, were we to gather the grandmother and sister were burning the report card on the street? who was the man who was talking to them? what was that about?

2. what was the deal with the confusion that happened when the girl spent the night in her donor's house? the imagery confused me: the girl warning the mother, then going back upstairs and seeing the suicide take place, then the mother rushing up and seeing the girl/the donor (?) in bed, then on the floor? can anyone help me straighten this out, or have i gone batty?

i had a few more questions ... but that's all for now. too tired.

thought of a couple more.

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
3. who was the strange man with the white hair the girl sees and looks at when she is done talking to her musical director?

4. the boy who's looking for his report card -- why exactly is he hungry? is it because he "doesn't know he's dead" yet? and what is he eating? a related question: can anyone read the characters on the lanters outside (what i'm presuming is) his parents' apartment?

5. what's with the wife of the restaurant owner wagging her tongue? that was a creepy scene.
