Broken X-Men 1.5 case.

I bought this today and the hub that holds disc 2 is busted. The disc is fine but the case is bad. Do you think I'll have any luck getting FOX to replace it? I don't really want to take it back because it's a long drive to where I bought it and I'm going to use the ticket Friday.

(I think someone here had a similar experience with ET and Universal replaced his case.)

If you dont want to take it back to the place that you got it, then take it back to WalMart and exchange it, they dont require receipts.

I'd take it back to a store. Best Buy might exchange it as well - they did that for a CD for me a few weeks ago. I didn't have a receipt, and they didn't have another copy of the CD, so they gave me store credit.

Just tell them it's defective, they either don't know or care. I don't know how many DVDs I've exchange but it works.

As it happens, one year ago today I got Peter Pan SE, which came with a free ticket to see Return to Never Land, and the disc was defective; it played halfway through Disney's castle logo, stopped, and went immidately to scene 2, skipping the opening credits and "The Second Star to the Right." I had Dad take it back, insert and all, but we kept the free ticket and Target never noticed. Dad went in, said the disc was defective, and got an exchange just like that. So if you exchange it -- and I strongly suggest you do -- I'd just keep the ticket. Nobody would really notice, and then you'd end up with two tickets (the one in the bad case and the one coming with the replacement you get.) Then you could use one for DD and one for X2. Not bad, don't you think?

I bought my copy on Thursday (Blockbuster broke street date). Got home, opened the DVD and my Chapter list was ripped and creased. I, like many here I'm sure, like to keep the original packaging and inserts in their best condition. Has something like this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know if I could get Fox to replace it?

Dunno, but you might have a shot getting Blockbuster to switch it for you if you beg. Then again, the Average Joe you go in and explain it to might think you're a bit nuts, but..it would be worth it, I think. Luckily, I got a good disc.

best buy, circuit city, etc

i don't think any of the electronic superstores would give you a hard time about replacement...near as i can make out they sell the "big" new release dvds and cds as loss leaders.

Dude, return it. I mean you can get a new case and another free ticket to use when "X2" comes out. I mean keep everything in there expect the free ticket, use that one on "DareDevil" and then use the other for "X2". You'll get to see two for free! That's what I would do...

Or, keep the ticket, exchange the DVD at Target tomorrow, use both tickets Friday on Daredevil. (The good thing about that is I'm only paying $16 for two tickets plus a DVD when a movie... with girlfriend by my side -- man's best friend ...will run me $19.50 for two tickets around here.)

Makin' out like a bandit! Plus, my Dad gave me a gift card to a really nice restaurant. I'm saving like $40 this Valentine's Day!

This is why I always shake a case before I buy it. If I hear anything rattling around inside, I put it back and get another copy. Ever since my copy of Traffic (the Criterion version) had a broken hub for the second disc, I've been fanatical about this.

I actually did shake it. I was checking to see if there was some sort of insert/ticket in there because I heard of a few people not getting theirs.
The disc wasn't loose until I opened it though.

My keepcase for Being John Malkovich had a broken hub, but I kept it; isn't the disc itself more important than the hub?

I shake every case before I buy, but that sound inside doesn't necessarity mean a loose disc, or a broken hub. For example, when my House on Haunted Hill (remake) disc came in the mail, there was something moving inside the case, so, fearing that it might be a loose disc, I opened it; it turned out that the thing moving inside was a mini-catalogue that featured other discs in the Warner Bros. DVD collection.

Just an FYI on returns at Wal-Mart...

They'll let you do it 3 times without a receipt, but no more. You can tell if they are keeping track of your returns if they ask for your driver's license.

And Target will only let you exchange for something in the same department - this isn't usually a problem for me, but my wife will want to return an unopened DVD we won from a radio station and go buy pants!

i am sure you could easily keep the ticket, since the dvd is open, there are no longer stickers that say Free Movie Ticket inside, so keep the ticket, take the DVD back to a store, get a new one, and than use that new ticket on Xmen 2

The paper that's stuck to the back of the box says there's a free ticket inside.

I exchanged it. Now I have two tickets. She didn't even look at what was wrong with the case. Just wrote 'broken hub' like I told her.

Good for you! Now use one ticket for DD and one for X2 and you'll get to see both free.

How did it get all messed up like that??

There's something weird with the packaging, though... when you put the insert into the keepcase thing, the insert front is actually backwards. You know, the text that says "The Future Is Here"? That is, if you want to have the black rim on the outside. Was my dvd produced backwards, or are all of them like this?

Mine was wierd too. When you open it up (left to right) you see the second disc, then the 'pocket flap' and finally the first disc.

I personally don't like it. But the cover art isn't as bad as initially expected. It certainly sticks out on my shelf (almost as much as Mr Pink.)
