I can only think of 2 at the moment, but they probably mark 2 of my all-time favorite film moments:

1. Gandalf and the Rohirrim charging into battle as the sun rises, in LOTR: TTT

2. The entire opening sequence of Gangs Of New York, including the shaving bit, the walking through the grotto with those drums blaring, the standoff, and of course the battle sequence.

I would like to add another great scene that has yet to be mentioned.

The Pianist - Adrien Brody climbing the fence and hobbling through the street, decimated buldings all around him.

I guess not much in 2002 made a good impression on me. Here are my 'favorites' that I found amusing for one reason or another.
  1. "Good afternoon, Mr. Yakamoto" from Minority Report.
  2. Main Titles (thank you Jerry) and "Clear the Stadium" from Sum of All Fears
  3. Sam Jackson hurling that computer monitor and then kicking it in Changing Lanes
  4. Scenes featuring the new Mercedes E-Class in Men in Black II
  5. The end credits to Spider-man (Wow, was I happy to see that disaster come to an end.)
  6. "Oh my God, it's OIL," the most unintentionally hilarious line ever voiced by Morgan Freeman in High Crimes
  7. The bad special effects of the bridge collapse from The Mothman Prophecies

Was Novocaine 2001 or 2002? If 2002, I'll have to add the stuffed rabbit scene. If anyone has seen this flick you'll know what I'm talking about.
I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life (at a movie). Best. Scene. Ever.

Somebody mentioned Mothman, Im pretty sure Mothman was 2001.

Nice lists, I see the most popular seem to be Helms Deep and Yoda Vs. Dooku. Nice!

  • The "Fuck You/Mirror" scene in 25th Hour. Stunning.

  • The animated section in the middle of Bowling For Columbine. Maybe the funniest 5 minutes in cinema history.

  • The "Cell-Block Tango" in Chicago. Great on stage... but brilliant on screen.

  • The birthday party video from Signs. Perfectly done.

  • The opening scene of Ghost Ship. Ouch.
