Full Frontal

Anyone see this movie? I rented the dvd yesterday and watched it today. I know alot of people didn't like it and some people did like it. I'm kinda in the middle there were parts that I liked(the Hitler part was great) and David Hyde Pierce was cool in it. The only thing I really didn't like about the movie was Julia Roberts and Blair Underwood's parts. If their parts were edited out it would have been much better. The Brad Pitt references and David Fincher making a cameo were pretty funny too. But the guy who was Hitler owned the film. Overall better than I expected although could have been much better.

2.5 and out 4 stars

The movie was good. A little self absorbed and it did drag at times but I am a fan of a lot of the cast and very much so a fan of Soderbergh.

While watching the DVD this evening (Saw it in theatres before) I was struck by the contrast between the ugly video and the film. The parts of the movie shot on film seemed, to my eye, to be some of the best looking DVD material I have seen. Excellent colours, great depth, very vibrant.

Anyone else notice this - or was it just my eyes being tricked.

BTW the video part of the movie is suppossed to look like it does and was shot on a "consumer" (still quite high end) grade camera, the Canon XL1s.

I hated this movie. Saw it in the theater, what a waste of money. I found a few scenes interesting but overall the characters and the story was boring. It was the worst film I saw last year.

More Suitable from a Film student, Methinks...

I'm a big Steven Soderbergh fan, but I really didn't like Full Frontal. I give Mr. Soderbergh credit for trying something different after the fluffy (but enjoyable) Ocean's Eleven (please, Mr. Soderbergh, don't make a sequel), but I think the whole project suffocated under its own pretension (something that happened to Hal Hartley a few years ago with Flirt). These kind of films seem like more of a film exercise one would find in a film class, the subject of an experimental short film.

Don't get me wrong: I think Soderbergh has redeemed himself marvelously with Solaris and his previous track record is far more consistent than many other indie auteurs who went so-called "Hollywood." It's also a credit to his talent and skill that so many well-known actors (and one superstar) would sign up to make Full Frontal for very little money.

My fiancee liked the film and bought the DVD (she also likes Erin Brockovich whereas I do not), so I guess I'll have to watch it again--there are far worse films to do so.

I've been interested in the film ever since I read a piece in Entertainment Weekly about how Soderbergh required all the cast (even Julia Roberts) to provide their own transportation, wardrobe and makeup. Of course, I never saw it (probably didn;t even play in my area), but I'll have to give it a rent now.

I really wanted to see the movie, so I will probably rent it. Much of your comments sound reminiscent of comments when Sex, Lies, and Videotape came out.

Not only was it shot on XL1s cameras, but it was done in 18 days and edited with final cut pro.

I would buy this disc just to support the idea that these tools are accessible to anyone and look what you can do with them.

The extra's are pretty good on the dvd. The interview with Soderbergh is really cool, the stuff about how when people watch the movie they think the stuff filmed like a movie(the Julia Roberts stuff) is a movie, but when they switch to the digital camera, everyone realizes that it must be really happening like a documentary. Even though they both are fake and both are movies. It was a pretty cool little movie. Glad I saw it though.

I'll have to check this out since I OWN an XL1! It's been relegated to the world's most expensive home movie camera, currently.

I wanted to see this movie becuase I've liked most of Steven Soudberg's movies but I never got around to it. Not many places have this DVD to rent I noticed. I'm going to rent this some time and see what I think. It's about 50/50 in the recviews that I've read...So I'll shall see for my self.

I just wrote a lengthy message about why I don't like Full Frontal but it is lost to cyberspace. I am not going to rewrite it.

Go ahead and watch this film. You might like it as a movie, but don't like it because of the equipment used to make it. Low budget films typically have an eighteen day shoot, and have for many years. Before Final Cut Pro came out low budget films have been edited using low end editing programs.

Don't admire this film because it was shot on digital. The Blair Witch Project, Tape and Waking Life all used digital to make much more rewarding films. It should not matter what medium a movie was made with but rather if the audience finds watching the film a worthwhile experience.

There are a lot of low budget movies out there. Some of them are quite good but never get released. If Full Frontal had not been made by a name director this movie would not have been released and none of us would have heard of it.

Niky Katt, and agreed. He's a genius in this movie. I always love his characters, he was the best part of the show Boston Public, and he owned Insomnia.

If you want to see a great Nicky Katt performance, check out The Limey ASAP. Soderbergh has said that during some of his scenes, he couldn't hold the camera because he was laughing so hard.

Rented it. Watched it for about fifteen minutes then turned it off. During that time I was confused as to what was going on, completly bored and deffinatly not entertained by it.

i watched most of it, and never really got to attached to it. i just got the feeling that the film wasn't developing into anything or taking me anywhere.

worth a rental, but i wouldn't think twice about owning it in my collection.

I was really disappointed all the stuff Nicky did was not included on The Limey disk. Soderbergh mentioned them before the movie hit DVD and said they might be included. I still wish they had been.

I'm quite curious to see what this movie is like. I had high hopes for it when it came out. Based on the reviews, it's on my Netflix list instead of my purchase list.

I agree. That would have been a blast to see.

Sorry this has gotten off topic. I still haven't seen Full Frontal.
