I just ordered mine this morning from DVD Planet, along with Criterion's double-feature "The Killers." Both are officially released on Tuesday the 18th and both are categorized as "In Stock." It'll probably ship today or tomorrow (hopefully).
When I first started collecting, I'd preorder religiously... New disks would usually arrive a few days before the release date. When they started to arrive a week or so late, I stopped preordering. I guess it all depends on the popularity of the title and the vendor, huh? |

My copy shipped on Wednesday. I usually get them on Monday. I just hope that the holiday doesn't screw things up. I'm really looking forward to thowing my old version out.

Got mine Monday. You are gonna be agog when you see how good the film looks now. Seriously, it's a sight to behold. And the restoration featurette makes you appreciate the work that was done. The "wet scan" result alone is astonishing.

I went into Best Buy today looking for this, and the girl said the release date was March 18.
This wasn't delayed, was it? I figured someone probably typed 3 instead of 2 in the computer I may just order it online, I guess.

"This wasn't delayed, was it?"
It sounds like Best Buy screwed up. It seems like every online store is sending it out now. Good luck finding a copy. Mine arrived today. I was very pleased with it. I don't know quite how to put it, but this version actually felt like a great film. Previously, I had only seen the Mandacy version. It never really impacted me because the condition was so poor and so many connections were missing. In the past, it always seemed like a collections of neat scenes that were probably very exciting 75 years ago. This time, I think I finally saw something close to the masterpiece that Fritz Lang put together. I'm very happy about that! Sorry to ramble like that, but I'm excited right now.

What an AMAZING restoration - and the music score really puts you into the movie. It's got to win some DVD awards this year!
Only ever having seen the 1980s pop-rock version (I know, I know, and I'm sorry!) I picked up a VHS of the film from a few years back, but it ran at 14 frames a second and the print was still in bad shape. Now with this DVD, I am astonished at how good the print looks, but is there anyone else out there that thinks that it now looks ever so slightly "digital"? I know in the featurette they go to great pains to describe how they wanted to stay away from this, but it still looks perhaps a little "too clean". However, could this be with putting everything (the 2-hour film, at least 60 minutes of extra material) on the one disc? In the UK, it's split over two discs (I assume one for the movie/commentary and one for the extras, though there doesn't seem to be enough to actually warrant a whole extra disc). http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...257717-7033255 Anyone seen/have the UK 2-discer? Are there more extras and is the print less compressed? Interested to hear what the differences are, but for now this is great!

I don't think its a limited release. I've never heard of Kino doing that. You should be safe for a while.

I finally found a copy at Tower Records (so I paid too much for it
), and watched the movie for the very first time tonight. All I can really say is "Wow". I can't believe I waited so long to see it, but I'm glad that it was this version I saw first, rather than one of the previous edits.. I've seen Citizen Kane once, and I am aware of the idea that it is one of, if not the, best movies ever made, but IMHO, Metropolis was head and shoulders above it. At least, this edit of it. ![]() |
