The Incredible Hulk (70s TV) on DVD?

With all the hoopla over Ang Lee's new Hulk movie (the trailer doesn't impress me), I'm itching to see old episodes of the 70s The Incredible Hulk TV series, starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, on DVD. I know Anchor Bay is planning to release those godawful TV movies from the late 80s/early 90s (god, did Bill Bixby [RIP] really need the money? Thor? Daredevil? Good lord!), but what about its 1977 pilot and the subsequent series?

A friend of mine lent me his VHS copy of the '77 TV movie--cheesy as expected, but still retro cool and fun as hell. I haven't seen the TV show since I was a wee lad, so I can't testify to its suposed quality (though I seem to remember it borrowed heavily from The Fugitive).

I wouldn't buy possible DVD sets of the series, but I'd definitely rent them to see if they hold up somewhat from my childhood nostalgia. If the film is a success, I wouldn't be surprised if the series is released.

Nowhere in site. A few months ago I called Universal and (accidentally, I'm sure) got transferred to a decent-high-up in the home video dept. I even was told about the Law & Order release about a week before it was officially announced.

When I asked about Hulk, and trying to tie it in with the film, he got quiet and then changed the subject.

I keep scouring for info on this set, hoping it will appear quickly. But so far my hopes have been for naught!

I don't know if it still does, but it used to come on the Sci-Fi channel. It's pretty good, but depressing.

Here's sad for ya. Entertainment tonight MTV edition did a story on the upcoming movie. Maria Menudos starts the story with...

"The latest movie that is a remake of an old TV series will be hitting screens this summer..."

That MTV people would think the Hulk is a remake of a TV show surprises me very little. I stopped expecting anything of quality from a network that calls itself music television yet cannot run music uninterrupted a VERY long time ago.

As for the Hulk set...it's coming, you can bet your ass. The first two seasons were actually very good (and the show bagged an Emmy), but they were attacked by the third season curse.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that they were releasing two of the TV movies on DVD instead of the series itself first. And since most fans seem to hate them, they probably won't sell enough to justify a release of the series itself in the minds of those who plan these things...

(That said, I still might by Trial, it being the better of the two.)

I agree, but it surprises me to no end that they didn't once refer to it being based off of one of the most popular comic books of ALL time.

The TV series was great but I think the popularity of the comic far exceeded that of the series. And I think that that should have been painfully obvious even to those shitheads at MTV. I'm not a diehard comics fan by any stretch of the imagination but hearing that still felt like a slap in the face to me. Stan Lee is probably seething.

Best episode of the 70's show imho was "Bring Me The Head of the Hulk", in which a bad-ass bounty hunter gets hired to take down the Hulk (I remember having the Corgi toy of his pick-up, which had a huge cage in the back!).

Also rather wicked was "Promethius", the 2-parter where the Hulk took on the US Army!!!!

I also hope this great show comes to DVD real soon.

I dug up this thread because tvshowsondvd.com has just reported that Universal will release a boxed set of The Incredible Hulk TV series on Oct. 21 (it looks like the pilot DVD sold well). The six-disc set will include the following episodes:

Disc One: Rainbow's End; Another Path; The Disciple

Disc Two: 747; Death in the Family (second telefilm)

Disc Three: The First, parts 1-2; Kindred Spirits

Disc Four: Stop the Presses; Mystery Man, parts 1-2

Disc Five: The Psychic; Prometheus, parts 1-2

Disc Six:
Dark Side; Deep Shock; The Harder They Fall

While not the season sets fans were hoping for, if this set sells well enough might we not see season sets in the future? As a casual fan, I'll enjoy this set--Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno outclass Eric Bana and his silly CGI alter ego!

Great find, retroboy!

All I can say is, yes! If the DVD boxed set of "The Incredible Hulk" TV series is anything like the first disc (pilot + second episode with commentary on both), then it looks like I'll be maxing out my credit card at the end of October (what with Finding Nemo and the Indy box set due out at the same time).

You used to be able to have FUN just staying home Friday nights, watching "The Incredible Hulk" and "The Dukes of Hazzard" back-to-back on CBS from 1977 to 1981. Nothing comes close to those two hours on weekends anymore.

Ok. I had the feeling if the Hulk pilot sold well, there would be more episodes out on DVD, My next question is does anyone know if there will be more Hulk Animated DVD's. I thought the first one had a great deal of great bonuses, though the animation and storyline wasn't the best.

Sincerely,

JThree

TVShowsOnDVD also has lots of pictures:

AICN reports in the Elston Gunn weekly recap that Ashton-whats-his-name from 70's Show (Demi Moore's boyfriend) wants to be in a film version of Dukes of Hazzard, co-starring Britney Spears as Daisy Duke. DVDs for the TV show would probably hit when this wreck of a film hits.

Just to give people a head's up, the episode listing on the back doesn't quite correspond with what's on the discs.

Here's the episode lists on the discs:

Disc 1
- Rainbow's End (episode 2.5)
- Another Path (episode 2.7)
- The Disciple (episode 2.18)

Disc 2
- The First (part 1) (episode 4.12)
- The First (part 2) (episode 4.13)
- Kindred Spirits (episode 2.20)

Disc 3
- Stop the Presses (episode 2.10)
- Mystery Man (part 1) (episode 2.16)
- Mystery Man (part 2) (episode 2.17)

Disc 4
- Dark Side (episode 4.4)
- Deep Shock (episode 4.5)
- The Harder They Fall (episode 4.14)

Disc 5
- 747 (episode 1.5)
- Death in the Family (2nd Pilot Movie)

Disc 6
- The Psychic (episode 3.18)
- Prometheus (part 1) (episode 4.1)
- Prometheus (part 2) (episode 4.2)

And, it also includes a cool mail-in $10 rebate for purchasing this set, and The Hulk movie (with mailing in the receipts and Proofs of Purchases)...

So, wahlers, it's the same episodes that are announced before, right? Just that what was said to be Disc 2 actually turned out to be Disc 5, etc.

The only mistake - and apparently it was Universal's because everyone got it wrong - was in announcing the discs out of the order they turned out to be in the box. The list of episodes is actually correct.

Right?

You mentioned a coupon for the Hulk film (which I won't need because I sent off for the $3 Kraft offer). Isn't there also a Galactica $10-off coupon in there? If so, is it mail-in or can you use it at the register?

I'll have to check the coupon again about the Galactica thing, but there is something about it on the other side of the side of the coupon.

I know the Hulk one is mail away only though.

And the disc order is more confusing that just 1 disc swapped. The original discs changed as follows:

Disc 1 = Disc 1 still
Disc 2 = Disc 5
Disc 3 = Disc 2
Disc 4 = Disc 3
Disc 5 = Disc 6
Disc 6 = Disc 4

But I don't really care that much. I'm planning on watching them in chronological order anyways, so either way, it was going to be a lot of disc-swapping between episodes.

The main reason I was trying to give people a head's up is because it's hard to just find which disc has a particular episode because there are no episodes listed on the inside of the package or on the discs themselves. No book or listing or anything. The episode list on the back is all the more of a list there is, so good luck trying to just put in a particular episode on the first try down the line.

I'm slipping a little handwritten list of my own in the package for future reference.

Is the episode with the other Hulk on here (I think he was played by Dick Durock, the Swamp Thing guy)? Lou Ferigno fights a wimpier looking angry green dude in this episode.

That would be The First Part 1 & 2 which is appraently on Disc 2.

This (these) were my favorite episodes.

I always thought the "wimpier looking angry green dude" look scary as hell.
