Blizzard game cinematics

I was in a software store the other day and noticed that they had a box set of three DVD's featuring the incredible cinematic clips from the "Warcraft" and "Diablo" games. If you haven't seen these things, they're pretty close to "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" quality. Outstanding CGI work.

Anyway, I didn't buy them because it didn't say on the box if they were anamorphic, or if they were DD 5.1. It had no technical specs whatsoever. Does anybody have any specs on these, so I know what I'd be getting into?

I can't find any information on it at all. I didn't even know they had a set of all of them --- I'm definitely picking this up. I don't care if it's anamorphic or 5.1, it's still Blizzard cinematics.
I'll edit this post if I find anything.

You can order the DVD directly from Blizzard:

If you are a fan of the games, or animation in general, they are worth picking up. My version is NOT anamorphic, but I didn't get the official release, which may have different technical specs.

Re: Blizzard game cinematics

Strange that they'd come out with a DVD with the cinematics for Starcraft when that game is like...fix or six years old. A few years before DVD and a few years before they REALLY stepped up the quality on the cinematics. I mean I'm not saying Starcrafts cinematics aren't good, because they are. But only as good as like Warcraft 1 and 2's cinematics so they should have just included those as well.

I'll answer my own question, since I went ahead and bought the set this afternoon.

They do appear to be anamorphic.

The sound is Dolby Digital, but I wouldn't say it's up to Hollywood standards. It sounds a bit compressed to me. Not bad, but don't be expecting Star Wars in the sound department.

All the discs look nice, although the Starcraft movies are a bit dated. They appear to have been rendered at 12 frames per second, so they're not particularly smooth. The other two discs (Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3) seem to be 30 frames per second, and look very good.

There's also some decent extra material, including concept art and trailers from all sorts of Blizzard games.

All in all, a good pick-up if you're into CGI at all!

I got them at Future Shop here in Toronto. I've certainly never seen them anywhere else, but this store had about 10 sets on the shelf. And, as videoworx pointed out, there's always the Blizzard online store.

I forgot how funny those Starcraft ones are. "I love you, Sarge!"

I'm not interested in these dvds. Although I would pick up DVD set with all the cinamatics from Final Fantasy 7 and up.

Diablo 2 had the best. They had good story progression and the one in between Act 2-Act 3 is fucking awesome. Warcraft 3's weren't as good when it comes to story content, but they are fucking GORGEOUS. You could put them all together, convert it into film (or have a digital projector), charge $6 for people to go see it, and I would buy a ticket in a second. Those cinematics are beautiful.
I wish Blizzard would remake Starcraft. They could throw it on the Warcraft 3 engine, remake all the cinematics but have the same content, story, etc, and it would make an awesome game. I would love to see a Protoss Carrier rush in full 3D.

Indeed...

That one scene with Diablo (or Diablo's brother?) walking out of the room with the old man whilst spreading fire from his gown was AWESOME....it was better than some of the Hollywood effects back then......

The guy in the cloak is Baal, aka Diablo's brother.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it was one of the crazy brothers, Baal, Mephisto...the list just goes on...

I wonder if I can watch cinematics off the "cinematics" cd that came with D2 without installing the game...wouldn't be cool if it was a VCD?

I remember some games that cd's could double as audio cds (i.e. C&C Red Alert)........

You can, but I believe they're in Bink format. It's not very well known, but you can find players and whatnot at http://www.radgametools.com.

They are also compressed, and you will notice the artifacts. These new DVD's are higher resolution and very good-looking.
