Faith restored!

Apart from the 4x3 version, the fact that the cartoons shorts are anamorphic and the documentary is over an hour will take some of the sting away from the fact that other deleted scenes (other than "pig head") aren't included, and the set is missing the original "Secrets Of Toontown" documentary.

Looks to be one to get after all!

But like Monteray Jack - I'll hold on to my CAV LD!

I can't wait either. I was a little miffed about some of the missing frames but I have gotten over it now. So I am not a purist when it comes to these things. I haven't seen that movie in well over a year. Last time I saw it was right before I sold my VHS copy.

It's really just a couple of frames. Frames that haven't seen print since it's initial run on laser...i.e. not a big deal.

I think on snopes.com there is a breakdown of what was deleted with captures. Just a couple frames of cartoon snatch.

I can't wait for this release. It's coming the day after my birthday so It's a day late for me to get it as a present but I don't mind dishing out the cash for a classic. I still have the first video release on VHS that I watch ever so ofter. It's kinda worn out so I"m glad I can upgrade to a better version.

What was the story with those Roger Rabbit shorts? I remember they were going to be on a laserdisc then were pulled quickly and became a collectors item or there was a Japanese release that came out and was rare.
A CAV LD, named The Best Of Roger Rabbit featured the three shorts Tummy Trouble, RollerCoaster Rabbit and Trail Mix-Up. As with the Roger film, animators had snuck a risky sight gag into Trail Mix-Up, which is set in a saw mill.

In one shot, as Roger swings from the rafters to swoop down and save Baby Herman from instant chainsaw death (it's funny), he passes a poster advertising "Rigid Tools", with a picture of a lady holding a chainsaw between her legs. It's literally only two frames in passing and had motion blur on it anyway, but Disney recalled the US discs when they realized the gag could be still-framed.

Some made it out to stores, and I was lucky enough to hear of the recall before some Tower records staffer did, so I went in early on the release date and picked one up. They were all gone later that day/next morning. It was also issued in Japan if I remember correctly and this is the one that goes on eBay for quite a bit.

The reason given by Disney was that there was a layer "glue problem" that needed fixing, while other rumors suggested Spielberg's name on the cover wasn;t big enough. Anyway, the Rigitd Tools image is the real reason. All subseqent VHS and I suppose this new DVD will not cut the shot, but smudges the image so it's unreadable. It's the kind of thing that, if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't miss, anyway.

Here was the US cover:

Hurry up March 25th...

This is so going to be the set that I have been hoping for since plans for a Vista Series RR was first leaked over a year ago (followed by months of silence). Early reports concerned me that it was going to be less than stellar, but this review just got me even more excited about owning it.

Video.com has a trailer for the DVD up. Go to the page below and click on the "View Clip" link.

BubbleGumUK You Bastard! My local laserdisc store (yes kiddies there used to be such a thing!) that I had it preordered through wouldn't give me mine, because of the recall. THey had 'em in the store, but wouldn't let me buy it! I'm really glad to finally be getting the shorts in a digital format (and can dump my VHS).

I also do believe that the discs were recalled for the Rigid Tools scene, though Gary Wolf (who wrote the book the film was based on) insisted to me at a Disney convention he was a guest at, that the real reason was Speilberg's name not being big enough on the packaging. Who knows (or cares for that matter), all I know is soon, I can watch Rollercoaster Rabbit in all it's digital glory!

DVD REVIEWS TO BE REMOVED!!!!

Well just for a while that is.

From Manabyte of IgnDVD.com

Just a heads up if our Roger Rabbit review vanishes,

Disney is forcing sites with reviews of the disc to pull them down. The reason is because the sites with reviews up right now got the disc through a PR firm, and sites that only deal with Disney are complaining that it's not fair that they don't have the disc yet.

So if you are wondering why the review isn't showing up. Its because of the above reason
