Mothman Prophecies

From DavisDVD.com

Columbia Tristar has just a announced a number of great new titles to round out their May schedule. Leading the pack on May 27th is a 2-disc special edition of The Mothman Prophecies. The creepy thriller will arrive with an anamorphic transfer (2.35:1), English & French DD 5.1 audio, and subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary with director Mark Pellington, 5 deleted scenes, "Search for the Mothman" documentary, "Day By Day: A Director's Journey - The Road In" and ""Day By Day: A Director's Journey - The Road Home" featurettes, "Halflight" Music Video, and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

I know someone posted this today but it was closed so I thought I would post all the info for those who care! I will be getting this but this is just another nail in the coffin towards my respect for Columbia Tri-Star who I consider the WORST company when it comes to DVD. Not only for their superbit gimmick but this who re-issue thing is getting out of hand.

Oh...and...WORST COVER ART EVER. Seriously that is one of the worst most God awful covers ever made. There is NO need for those faces! They got the cover right the first time! :flush:

What's funny is the first two things that went through my head when I saw the headline that an SE was coming out where:

I'm glad I waited for the SE.
I hope I can get a homemade cover to replace this POS.
I've never seen this movie and depending on price might buy it blind, but god that cover is hideous!

I've been curious about this film. Two friends have seen it and liked it. One of my friend went ahead and bought the first release. Good for me because he let me borrow it but bad for him since a this Special Edition is being released

Maybe not so bad for my friend. If I like it, I will buy the Special Edition and let him borrow that. :p

I don't know how many times, but I was so tempted to buy the original release.

Phew!

Well, looks like another double dip for me. Maybe I could just switch the covers.

I'm suprised that Columbia is releaseing a SE of this movie. I figured since it was a bomb in theaters...I take that back, the way Columbia releases their titles nowadays, we'll have SE for every title in Columbias' catalog.

I don't think the cover art is all that bad, at least compared to Universals' cover art for their re-release of the Frighteners.

However, I'm glad to hear this even though I own the bare bones release. I love the movie so this is only good news to me.

I thought this was a very amusing film, just in all the wrong ways.

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
That bridge effects sequence at the end was just horrible.

Maybe if the Gere character drove a BMW instead of an Audi, I might have enjoyed this film a bit more...

This is probably the first time I liked the "bare bones" release cover more than the SE.

Wow, this film warrants a special edition? And a really attrocious cover too (I really hate these trendy headshots so prevalent on DVD covers--whatever happened to using the more visually-interesting theatrical posters on DVD cases instead? Sigh...).

Yeah, unlike that model of documentary realism, Signs.

I thought The Mothman Prophechies was the second-scariest film of 2002 (after Frailty). And the "bad" F/X you cited looked fine to my eyes.
