Day Earth Stood Still - UNAVAILABLE IN STORES?

I just searched my local BESTBUY and CIRCUIT CITY and they didn't receive this title. I was told they weren't stocking it and to order it online. What's the deal? Anyone else having a problem finding "The Day The Earth Stood Still" today?

It's not that noone's going to carry it.

It's just that noone is going to pay premium overnight shipping charges to have old films like this air-shipped in just to have it on street date.

I expect them to have it by the weekend. In the meantime, Borders *might* have it already, if you're willing to pay more.

I got mine yesterday morning from Futureshop.ca (free shipping on everything right now). I got fed up with stores not carring shit on release day or 10 days after realease day...I shop online now. Most places give you a deal on shipping too...so it's just like going to the store minus the brainless clerks and annoying people.

I had a feeling that this one would be hard to track down. I got my copy in the mail yesterday. It's a great set. I hope that you can find it.

Try Tower Records, you can generally find every new release there.

I got mine Saturday at Borders too. I am nervous now, even before beginning my search for Quest For Fire and Journey to the Center of the Earth. I think that those two will be very hard to find at a B&M.

I haven't gone looking for this yet, I just hope that someone has it, as this is the one release I'm getting this week.

I got mine online with Quest For Fire. I did see QFF at Best Buy today, but no DTESS. I did pick up the new Assault on Precinct 13 and Winter Kills a week and two weeks early, respectively.

Damn! Not bad.
I might have to sign up at costco.....is it expensive?

I didn't figure they would have this either.

I said screw it and ordered it on deepdiscount about an hour ago (along with Metropolis) thanks to my Midnight Run sale!

Depends on your definition. Yearly memberships are $45.
Costco members page

I find they often have the best prices on *select* disks and *most* season sets (Buffy, Angel, ST:NG have been the biggest deals so far).

Best to check the Bargain Area first before making the Costco trek, unless you're out of Wheaties.

We had quite a few at the Media Play I work at. Media Play, for those who don't know, is a Best Buy company, so it's odd that Best Buy doesn't have it yet, but we do...

There were loads of it at Future Shop in Toronto!
I just took a peek at it - wow! Nice restoration and transfer!

Well, I checked Target, Circuit City, FYE, and Wal Mart... all to no avail. I'm gonna check Barnes & Noble tomorrow, and if I don't find it there I guess I'll just have to wait, which ticks me off.:rar:

I also saw this at my local Future Shop here in Canada. They had about 5-6 copies. Didn't pick it up though, maybe sometime in the future

I didnt go shopping today but I recommend checking Borders and even Best Buy because The Day the Earth Stood Still is part of FOX's new spiffy classics line, and I was able to find their past recent releases (How Green Was My Valley, Gentlemens Agreement, and All About Eve) on the day of release at these places.

Also, Target has good prices sometimes, but on most obscure/older movies, they are not too good there.

We got all three titles in at the Borders where I work PT. They are part of a FOX Classics endcap that will be displayed throughout March. Unfortunately, we only recieved one copy of each.

Well, I have looked everywhere for "The Day the Earth stood still", and the only place that has it is Barnes & Noble...and they're asking $19.99 for it. Not sure I want to get it, cause my luck another store will get it in a few days and only charge $10 for it.
