Thanks

What happened to THE INDEPENDENT??? I saw this in theatres over a year ago, a very funny movie. Yet, nothing on its release. Thought it was forgotten since it was a very small studio releasing it.

And FAT GIRL I remember was the next film showing at the same theatre. Didn't see it though. I thought this was at one time announced for last year, but was never released.

There have been some rumors of a Criterion edition of "Fat Girl". Nothing has ever been confirmed, but the rumors began sometime last year. I think that it was distributed by Cowboy Pictures. That's the same company that re-released Ikiru, Ziggy Stardust and Posto last year.

Wow, two extremely low profile films and I've seen them both.

Fat Girl - Don't know anything about a Region 1 release of this. A friend of mine has an an all-region import. I don't remember any details of this disc. I could talk to my friend if anybody wants more details.

The Independent - One of my favorite films of 2001. I've been emailing Fineman Films every couple months for the last year asking when we'll see a DVD release. Within the last month they told me that there still is no deal in place for a DVD release, but that there are plans for a showing on Comedy Central sometime in 2003. Shitty news. Maybe I'll email them again tonight. Email them here.

Fineman Films has a nice website for The Independent here

I loved The Independent. So funny and they had the greatest movies within the movie. How could you not love these titles:

I have both of those images on postcards from Fineman Films. They'll send you a free postcard. Info is on the website.

I just emailed Paloma at Fineman Films again asking when we might see The Independent on DVD. I also stated that there was strong interest in seeing this film on DVD and that if they get it done, people will buy it.

I encourage everyon here to email at the link I provide above. Maybe they'll listen to us.

Morty Fineman rocks!!!

Der Ubergoober (1973) - War /Comedy

A German farmer breeds the world's largest peanut. Americans are outraged, and demand that America produce an even larger peanut. A satire on the arms race. Billy Carter cameos as Redneck Red, the redneck Red, three years before the rest of the world discovered him.

I wish all of their 428 films were real!

I highly recommend to everyone that they check out the Fineman Films website. The list of films is HILARIOUS. I wanna see so many of those films. It's a shame they're not real.

I don't hate Janeane Garofalo. I think she's a very funny lady. And she's great as Paloma in The Independent. Jerry Stiller is also at the top of his game and his son has a brief cameo. Fun stuff.

I've seen that before. It's not a legitimate release. In one of the emails I got from Fineman Films they said that there were bootlegs in other regions, but that there had never been a legitimate DVD released. I'm not normally so against bootlegs, but I really enjoyed this movie and I'd like the people that made it to get my money for it.

Studio: Int. Licensing and Copyright Ltd.

Oh man, I haven't seen or even heard of "The Independent", but it's looking like the just the variation of motion picture I'd be delighted to see!

"Fat Girl" I luckily caught on the very LAST day that it played in Denver, and am awfully glad I did. I felt it was a simply marvelous film. I must find my initial posts regarding it in "Now Playing"....

The link you provided does indeed look legit. I was just basing my comments on the e-mail correspondence I've had with Fineman Films. I could very well have been corresponding with an uninformed intern. I couldn't tell ya. That's a pretty decent price at Amazon. Maybe I'll check it out. I can play all region stuff on my laptop.

Wow.
These are 2 movies that I too would love to see on DVD!
Since neither of them played theatrically near me (well Fat Girl might play yet since the aforementioned Ontario ban on it has been lifted). I've been getting my eyes open for ANY info on DVD releases of these films but nothing yet. However, I like that tidbuit about Criterion possibly releasing Fat Girl. That would be very very nice!

I'd visited that Fineman films site before and it's so hilarious.

What were the specifics on the Ontario ban? Seems to me I remember (saw Fat Girl well over a year ago) that there was both sodomy and nudity with 15 year old girls. Good film as I remember too. It played here in Pennsylvania, but it played as an unrated film at an arthouse.

It's also about $9 on benson's world

I also saw The Independent in theaters and the filmmakers were present and handing out postcards of Morty's films. I have one or two of them lying around.

The transfer is pretty awesome for a DVD that costs £4.49 (that's US-$ 7 including worldwide shipment) via play.com

Thanks for the pics, Riedenschneider. Damn, that sucks that they list Ben Stiller's name on the top. He has a tiny cameo. I might have to pick this release up because I loved the movie.
