I'm also voting for Kieslowski's Trois couleurs (aka Three Colors Trilogy).

I have to go with the Three Colours Trilogy. It's the combination of low price, extensive supplements, quality presentation and the beautiful films that earned my vote.

I'm assuming on this one since I haven't gotten the DVD yet, but none-the-less my vote goes to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Buena Vista Series Two Disc Set).

How do you vote for something that you have not seen yet? How?

That's like saying the best sex you've ever had was with someone you haven't met yet. I don't get it. The month has 10 days left. No need to vote yet.

You see MurDiddlyUrdler, I only vote for DVD's that I have bought, or in this case am going to buy. Since Who Framed Roger Rabbit? will be the only DVD I buy this month I can vote for it now in good faith. It's simple really.

But since you haven't seen it yet, you don't know that it won't suck. It will probably be good, but how do you know without seeing it? What if it's one of the worst DVDs you've ever seen? What if there's a giant scratch down the middle of the frame throughout the entire film? There probably isn't, but you haven't seen it yet, so you don't know. If it sucks, will you retract your vote?

If there's a scratch down the middle of the frame from start to finish, I'd return that DVD and demand a replacement because reviews of Roger Rabbit - Vista Series have been popping up here and there on the net lately with no mentioning of any audio/video issues. In fact, the audio and video side of this DVD has been getting fairly high marks in terms of quality. And the reviews I've read have been positive regarding the supplements as well. The commentary is supposed to be incredible, and the 3 included Roger Rabbit short films are anamorphically enhanced to boot. Frankly, if someone thinks this DVD is going to suck, they must have something against the film itself (or can't get passed the fact that it isn't "uncut").

I would have voted for Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Vista Series if it weren't for Buena Vista's release of the Three Colors Trilogy. Now that's just a show-stopper, right there. This month's competition will certainly be heated.

I've got nothing against Roger Rabbit. In fact, I've never seen the film. I look forward to seeing it. I never said anything against the film. I simply do not understand someone casting a vote for something they have not seen.

I have a feeling my vote will go to Auto Focus, but I still need to check out some other releases before I vote.

I ask again, why vote for something you haven't seen yet?

Day for Night....

Because it's a great movie and in the section on how the film was received in the US, they mention on the back of the snapper case that it has interviews with Bob Balaban, Todd Mccarthy (a critic), and others. But they neglect to mention Brian De Palma! who appears twice and speaks articulately in the 8 minute section. Is this Warner's revenge for the failure of Bonfire of the Vanities?

I suspect you're hoping Vonner will answer this question, but if he could see what you were driving at (instead of defending his own voting system), he'd probably reply by saying something along the lines of "because I can." That's how I'd respond, anyways. In this case, we're talking about Roger Rabbit. This movie is over a decade old, so most of us have seen it already. For those people, they're assumption that the DVD will be good or bad (to them) is rather safe. For those who haven't seen it yet, they're taking a risk. I can understand why you, MurDiddlyUrdler, aren't comfortable voting on this movie, but Vonner pretty much knows what to expect from Roger Rabbit - Vista Series.

Vote me for Ringu. The transfer on that is SPECTACULAR (what an improvement from the Tartan version). It's definitely worth the vote.

Vonner may know what to expect, but I, and I'm drunk off my ass, know that you can't truly judge something until you see it. Nobody has given me a reason yet to judge without seeing something, so I guess I must be right. You should wait until you've seen something before you give it your full support.

I think many you are forgetting The Day The Earth Stood Still. I am a sucker for the classics though. Fox is doing a wonderful job releasing these classics. This is my first post by the way. I have been reading here for years though.

Just a note, Donkey -- you have the Three Colors trilogy listed twice, once as

Kieslowski's Three Colors Trilogy

and once as

Three Color Triolgy.

You list them both with votes. In fairness, shouldn't they be combined (although I'd never vote for either, since I think Kieslowski is incredibly overrated)?

I'm withholding my vote until after I see Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Straw Dogs.

MurDiddlyUrdler you raise a very good point here. In fact I make my views on people giving opinions on movies they haven't seen very clearly everyday. I say if you haven't seen the movie I don't give a shit what you think about it. In order to truly judge a movie, or anything really, you must experience it first.

However, here is how I rationalize my vote in this situation. Since my voting policy is "I only vote for DVD's that I have bought" I only see three choices for me.

1. Go ahead and vote now for Roger Rabbit because it's the only one I'm buying this month.

2. Vote for something else on the list. I'm NOT going to do that because it would go against everything I said above.

3. Abstain from voting this month.

I choose option one because I will eventually own, and see Roger Rabbit. I am assuming that the DVD quality will be as good as any other Vista Series DVD that I own. Maybe that's wrong. I guess, in retrospect, I should have held off voting until I do see the DVD. If the DVD is terrible when that time comes I will make a special case to come to this thread and rescind my vote.

I hope this makes some sense. It will all be pointless come Tuesday anyway (assuming the DVD is without a giant scratch down the middle ).

You do make sense and I apologize for making such a big deal about it. I am glad that you understand my point.

Back on topic, I will come back to this thread later next week after I've had the chance to check out Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy. I look forward to both of those DVDs, but they've got a tough competitor in Auto Focus.

WhipSlik,
I screwed up, that has now been fixed.

tqpix,
I forgot to put Ringu (Widescreen) and Ringu (Full Screen) on the list, so I put your vote down for Ringu (WS) is that cool or do you want it for Ringu (FS) or The Ring (WS or FS)? PM me & let me know!

Also, I just want to say that Who Framed Roger Rabit? (Buna Vista Series Two Disc Set) is winning with 7 votes to Three Color's Trilgoy Box Set's 4. Make sure you get your votes in!

In the future, I suggest not listing Non-OAR... no one will vote for them...

As for me... I'd have to say... Roger Rabbit (I'd go with the Osbournes, but the picture quality is painful...)

As for MurdiddleyUrder, you do raise a valid point, imho... me, I've already seen the DVD...
