It's......

...Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Has anyone experienced any problems with the A&E releases of MP episodes?

I got the first 2 boxed sets from 800.com and had tons of trouble with the discs:

disc 1: stuttering/jumping/freezing
disc 2: would not play, error
disc 3: would not play, error
disc 4: worked perfectly

So I contacted 800.com (who so far have been wonderfully cooperative and accomodating in getting things set right) and they had be ship back both sets, as they shipped two new ones.

So I get the new discs delivered and experience different sets of problems, therefore reaffirming my belief that is was a bad lot of pressings rather than a compatibility problem with my Proscan player:

disc 1: would not play, error
disc 2: would not play, error
disc 3: worked perfectly
disc 4: worked perfectly

So this time I'm just returning the first boxed set -- hopefully this third set of Volume 1 & 2 will work, but I was wondering if:

[a] anyone else had experienced similar problems with Monty Python or other A&E releases

-or-

[b] what could cause such a problem in a batch of discs.

My logic says it HAS to be a problem in just some discs, because the problem went away on disc 3 with the second delivery, and got worse on disc 1. I hope to eventually gather a complete 1-4 working set before this is all said & done.

What player are you using? I've been watching them on my computer and on a fairly recent low-end Panasonic (I forget the model no.). I've experienced no problems thus far.

With only episode 13 left to watch all 4 discs have played fine on my Toshiba 3109.

Sounds like a bad batch or a tempermental player. You wouldn't happen to own a Panasonic player would you?

Nah, no Panasonic. I have the highly-reviewed ProScan PS8680Z, and up until these Python discs I've had nary a problem.

I've had zero problems playing them on my trusty Toshiba 3107.

It's those darn divx encrusted ProScan players.

Aaah, c'mon you guys, I've played all eight(!!!) Monty Python Flying Circus discs on both my ('chipped', region-free) Denon DVD-2000 (=Panasonic 110, or so I've been told?) and Panasonic P10 (portable), with zero problems on either machine...
