what's the difference between 16:9 full screen and pan & scan?

artisan will be releasing "stir of echoes: special editon" in 16:9 full screen. not in pan & scan. now i am confused. don't they mean same?

When they say 16:9 full screen, I think they're trying to say that it's an anamorphic widescreen title.

Wouldn't standardized DVD packaging be so nice?

If you display a 4:3 image on a widescreen/anamorphic TV it will have gray bars on the left and right unless you use one of the zoom modes.

The problem with the zoom modes is that they tend to make the picture look squished.

The reason you want to use the zoom mode anyway is to avoid screen burn in on your $5,000 TV.

I believe 16:9 full screen fills up the left and right sides of the 4:3 image to prevent the screen burn in problem.

But I'd like to see a quote of your source as this is pretty rare (though I wish more studios would do this).

Maybe they're talking about 'pan & scan on the fly'?

16 X 9 is 16 X 9 regardless of their terminology.

I just want to know if 16:9 full screen means it will be in widescreen.
when I saw "stir of echoes", it was in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. I will preorder this title once I am assured that it'll be in widescreen.
