The Gods Must be Crazy

I was wondering if anyone else out there in DVD land would really love to have the hilarious and masterful films of Jamie Uys on the little disc. Specifically, "The Gods Must Be Crazy" I & II, as well as his excellent desert documentary, "Animals Are Beautiful People". I'd buy all three of them in a heartbeat, even if they were movie only and non-anamorphic.

Being produced in South Africa, they don't seem to be associated with any US studio, so it would probably depend on Artisan or some other independant studio to release them.

If you haven't seen these movies, I'd suggest renting "The Gods Must Be Crazy" on bad old VHS. It's very funny and enjoyable, for anyone of any age.

Yes, I realize that this is resurrecting an ancient topic, but I recently saw The Gods Must Be Crazy on tv the other day. I found myself wincing at the horrendous P&S (hey look, he's talking to a nose!) and wishing that there was a DVD available.
Has anyone heard anything regarding a future release?

I would LOVE to see TGmbC come out on dvd. I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. Because I'm so eager to get it, I keep hoping one I'll see news of its impending release on DVDFile or The Digital Bits... but nothing so far.

I love this film. Hardly any dialogue and lots of funnies!!! My mom, brother and I used to watch it together on cable and always had a great time!!!

I am in agreement with the other members, it matters not how they release it (well except for pan and scan) I would definitely buy it!!!

Maybe Criterion Will pick it up. Hey! dream big and compromise your way down!:p

This is my top, number 1 most wanted DVD. I want it more than Star Wars!

Well, it could have something to do with the fact that I already have the SW Laserdiscs in the big black boxes. I guess if I didn't already have those it would place a little lower on my want list.

I want the sequal too.

Amen to that! At least if Criterion handled it, we might have a chance of hearing the original version - as opposed to Sandra Prinsloo's horridly dubbed american accent. Having heard the original when I lived in South Africa, the dub just seems really out of place.

Here's hoping! Oh great Criterion - hear our call!

That would explain it then.

Anybody know if it (and/or the sequel) is available anywhere other than Region 1?
